How to have fun on extinction?

I always feel like I'm on a worse version of the island/The center (Or a worse version of scorched earth). And I can never open supply crates because I always find purple tier that would destroy me.

I've tried it on a new character, I've tried it on an old character.

I've beaten the island, the center, scorched earth, abberation. So its the next one in order

I just feel bored on it, most of the time. Theres only a couple new creatures. A lot of cool looking places are in the wasteland where you can't realistically build. Its feels like most of the new engrams are just taxidermy, the big status condition is hunger...shrug, can't make cryopods without a tek fabricator, corrupted creatures feel like less of a threat than some of the real versions, etc.

The only time it feels exciting is in the hard area where corrupted wyverns and things spawn.

Haven't had much luck finding explorer notes on extinction. Only found 3 explorer notes so far this playthrough on extinction. Later I may transfer over a high level dire wolf from my The center base.

I did want to build a tree base in crater forest, but I don't know if a greenhouse will work there since its underground. And a really, really long walk to get out of it. But Gachas spawn there and they are suppose to be amazing.

"Theres only a couple new creatures" - Snow Owl, Gacha, Managarmr, Gasbags, Velonosaur to name a few, more than a couple.

It seems like its not boredom, but difficulty is your main issue, if Purple OSDs are giving you issues.
I suggest doing the forest cave and summon the Forest Titan, $10 says you won't be bored for long.

The only dino I brought with me so far is one of my 350 boss fighting tek rexes for exploring for places to live. I don't really have an answer for corrupted wyverns that a purple drop can spawn.

With only that rex, a few igunadons, and an anky I darn not fight a purple. I didn't worry much about getting a good dragon on scorched because I had planned to do ragonark. So my only real strong air units are argents from the center.

I do want to do a drop, but I want to do the easiest one and I just can't find them. I always find high tier ones.

Certain places exclusively spawn low tier drops and certain places exclusively spawn high tier drops so go to the low tier drops spots (look it up on wiki or stick to drops near the city especially south )

Greenhouse work as long as the natural ceiling is more than about 30 walls above the plots

ummmm.... as an extinction addict it is very fun, cryos can be built at terminals no city, but i know there in the domes and sunken forest, dessert easier to get to, and build enforcers for drops they have a damage bonus on corrupted, but if it still doesn't appeal to you, this is why we have mods my friend

I see. I usually move my dino army over to a base i set up in sanctuary, mainly due to its central location, as the caves are much easier to farm than on the island.

What do you mean? None of the city terminals have has cryopod building, nor the terminal at the desert dome or delta tower,

Its okay, my argent soloed a yellow supply drop and I got a few cryopods and junk, whole lot of junk, not really any good. Mastercraft riot legs with a worse defense than the flak ones from abberation I can make was the best thing.

But if it had only been a blueprint.

The only fun I've had on Extinction is the Orbital Supply Drops and Element Nodes. Plus beetles not in caves and tapejara in more quantities than I've ever seen, although by the time I played Extinction, they were unnecessary.

I do like the moody broody atmosphere, and so probably spent more time than I should have, but I don't regret it.

However, if you're fine with mods, then Valguero, with the mods that add Extinction dinos (like snow owls and velonasaurs) as well as rockdrakes, griffins, managamrs, etc. is a lot more fun (mostly for the easy element production though, in its Aberration zone).

These mods restore content stripped out of of Valguero when the Ark devs made it official, because it conflicted with their paid DLCs (mostly Extinction and Aberration).

But as I've said many times before, Ark's saving grace is it's excellent support for modifying the game however you wish, and I really think the Ark devs rock for allowing these mods on Valguero.

Didn't know there was element nodes, but as much as people complained about making element on abberation I found it pretty easy with 8 charged batteries in a bunch of charge stations and set them all to make element, 100 element easy.

Haven't seen yet how element is so super easy on extinction yet. I've made like 2 element from 2,000 dust.

basicallly "Defend the flag" type battles, with the twist it's not binary (win vs. lose), but rather how many you can save, and can latter harvest effectively.

Edited Note: changed the link. I forgot how much the youtuber I first linked is so annoying, as if we care about his issues. And take small dinos, such as velonosaurs or raptors that can move around rapidly without destroying the nodes, instead of rexes.

Sorry, couldn't find a Youtuber who did it best, but I hope you get the drift. Not easy to solo (bring more tamed dinos), but easier than collecting trophies and such and breeding rexes with a pass or fail and lose them all condition.
