Lost my main character by creating a new one?

If you create a new character do you lose your main character?

I had a lvl 45 character, and I wanted to create a new one with a different build, but now I can't spawn in with my main character anymore. It keeps spawning in with the new character that I have made.

Does this mean that I have lost my main character or what?

Yes, you only have one character per server and one on offline play.

Yeah your main is gone now. They should probably give a warning when you're about to start a new character.

Ehhh...well that's stupid, and I don't even know why it should even do that...

This means I'm screwed now, and lost all my progress? I mean seriously there is no warning whatsoever that you will LOSE your progress by doing so.

It's a hard lesson to learn. I agree there should be some kind of warning stating you will loose your current character if you proceed. Perhaps the DEVS will put that in sometime down the road?

Server: Primitive

If you wish to save your char for later usage - you need to go to any of the towers and upload it there. You can later download it on any server that allows you to do that (which in most cases is a limited amount of unofficial servers and singleplayer).

After you upload your char on a server that DOES NOT support char downloads - it is lost for you on this server only.

Char uploading (saving) is allowed on any server regardless of server settings, but downloads - as i said - on a very few of them.

What Okim said. You can save your character, but depending on the server you are on, you may not be able to download it later. You may as wel forget about it altogether if playing on official servers. Though many (but not all) unofficial servers have downloading enabled..The ones that balance their pvp will probably not have it enabled.

Having only 1 character per server prevents certain types of griefing, such as equipping your alternate character with C4 to raid someones base so that they don't know who really raided them. Plus many more types of grief.

the real bad thing is, that beside your lost levels, all your structures don´t belong to you any more. so you can´t continue building your base.

This is also a feature to prevent certain types of griefing, along with only having 1 char. Such as gaining enemies by trolling people on a server, and then just making a new character with a new name and then continuing the griefing under a new alias, or otherwise tricking people in some manner.
