Yes. The torpor inflicted scales with the damage on the bow. Also, headshots inflict much more torpor than do bodyshots. There are two components to this torpor, an immediate effect, and additional torpor inflicted over 4s. Unless you're trying to KO a flyer (who already take increased damage from projectiles) or something with very low HP (Dodos), use your highest damage crossbow and aim for the head, firing every 4s. If it wasn't already bloodied, you won't kill it before it goes unconscious, and you'll use fewer arrows, and incur less durability damage to your bow than using half-draws with a primitive bow, as some will undoubtedly (and wrongly) recommend you do.
Also, it doesn't matter whether your tame has 99% or 1% HP remaining when it goes down; unless you injure it after it's KO'd (or can't keep it safe from predators), the taming efficiency is unaffected.
