Do wild dino's despawn?
for a long time I am looking for a high level male spino. Last night one spawned infront of my base. So I run up to the base, going to grab my arrows and bows to knock it out. When I come back the spino is gone. I was gone for less then 5 minutes. So I thought, maybe it wandered off. Nope nowhere to bee seen. Checked everywhere. So I go fly around looking for more, but no spino's anywhere. the few I had seen also weren't there anymore. after 10 minutes new Spino's kept popping up on the usual spawn locations.

Now my question.

Do some dino's de-and respawn tomake room for fresh different level dino's?

Not sure, some times I come back to an area and the dinos levels have changed. but mostly they seem to go into stasis. However, many times I come back and see the same dinos doing the same thing as before, same level. So dunno.

Yes, they despawn. You can test this by trapping wild dinos, they'll eventually disappear while you're away.

it is so weird, because the other day I a saw a dark red, white fin female lvl 116. and 16 hours later I saw the same looking dino there still murdering stuff.

I had the same happen to me the other day wit ha 120 mammoth. I think they will despawn if they're put into stasis within the no spawn radius of structures.

i didnt think that anything despawns with the persistent sub level dino spawn it says whilst loading or something along that line so i always thought the world goes on around you even if you cant see it

Is it possible that something attacked it while it was unconcious? I've had dilo's and scorpions attack what I was taming and 'eat' the body right in front of me.

Not saying that is what happened, just offering an alternate idea.

Unfortunately sometimes you may be trapped inside an underwater cave because 4 lvl 100+ plesis have spawned nearby.
It does create a great taming opportunity.

If they're engaging things, they won't despawn. But if they're not doing anything, they'll despawn.

didn't knock it out yet. and I don't think a few turtles would be able to eat a lvl 116 spino :P. Thank you for the idea's. it makes the search continue.

Ahh, gotcha..

I'm sub'd to the thread, I'm curious as to what happened myself now..

They shouldn't despawn as far as i know. But they can travel long distances chasing behind other dino's like pteranodon, parasaurs or phomia's

There was an albino rex that was munching away near a large river, I went back to my base for 5 mins to get tranq arrows and narcs, when I got back it was just gone.. Flew all over looking for it. Never to be seen again.

well it seems if you see something you want to tame, you need someone to keep an eye on it while you get the taming equipment. Especially for high lvl carnivores.
