Raptor, (I usually wait for tranq arrows before going after raptors as 2 good shots can take down most raptors) trike, (early game berry harvesting) scorpion, (for easier tranqing of tougher dinos) and argentavis, (air transport with decent carry weight) are all good mounts that you will want to have a saddle for, for various reasons.
a rex or spino, (or both) for high damage mount for farming meat.
the plesio and megalodon saddle, and possibly the dolphin saddle for water transit.
If you can find a good area to set up a base, (midway up western beach for me) you can settle for thatch structures as no big carnivores would spawn to pose a threat.
Then just give some serious thought to what you actually want to use. Set points aside for all of the crafting stations and any prerequisites for recipes you want to learn.
also note that blueprints spawn in the drops so if you save your points in the late game you may find a BP for something that you need and be able to spend the points on something else.
My suggestions
Bed and structures and storage
Compass and spyglass (shows level of dino when looking through it, helpful on taming runs)
blood draw kit for healing packs for emergencies if you want. (I never use them)
Bow/Crossbow
Arrows/Tranq arrows (mortar pestle, and narcotics obviously as well)
whatever armor you feel safe wearing, (never go above chitin on my sp)
full metal tool set, (Pick, Axe, Pike, Sickle,)
Waterskin/jar/canteen ( if you are comfortable with the skin stick with that)
Late game stuff would be generator, fridge, grill, multi directional lamp, turret, (if in an area where extra protection is desired) and preferably the assault rifle.
This is because a nice thatch hut on the beach serves you for a long time. And can be abandoned, expanded, or upgraded at your convenience. I end up with TONS of fiber as the game goes on (due to relying on harvesting for narc berries until you get a major farm set up).
After that, you can 'slow-play' your engrams. Tame a raptor ASAP (easier to tame them than Parasaurs due to them not running away), which really requires a slingshot, so that's a priority. The raptor will give you a good way to travel, as well as some pretty good stats for fighting dinos (a level 15 raptor leveled up to 30 is more than a match for taking on trikes and turtles to keep a meat supply going). Travel allows you to harvest white/green beacons, which should get you a lot of materials and blueprints.
Similarly, cloth and hide armor are priorities, so you aren't reliant on having a blueprint in your inventory for field repairs.
Don't bother learning engrams if they aren't something you feel is absolutely needed, or is something you need to know when not at your base (allowing you to leave blueprints at your base where they are safe).
As far as saddles, Raptor and Trike are the main 2. The rest, I'd wait to find as blueprints 100%, except potentially T-Rex once you tame one.
Additionally you can easily do without:
Signs/Flags/Notes
Standing Torches
Blood bags
And will get little benefit from upgrading beyond:
stone for pipes
medium for crop plots
stone for structures (really wood/thatch will do for most needs but you need to go to stone to get a behemoth gate)
And absent other players you'll find these are probably not worth their cost:
bear traps
most guns
turrets
For saddles the real question is what dinos do you want to tame?
I've found that an Ankylosaur is a pretty good pick (gathers berries, flint, metal, and thatch), as is an Ichthyosaur (get you to the pearls and oil). A Argrevatis is also a good pick (flyer).
There aren't any dinos you absolutely have to tame to play, and you can get saddles and their blueprints from supply drops.
I also don't bother with any of the farming stuff... you can work around almost all of it in SP. As others have said you don't need a lot of the weapons, particularly the high end high cost ones - rocket launchers, c4 etc. and aviod the "make my stuff look nice flags" till you actually have a bas you want to... make look nice lol
I also use SP to decide where I want to put my bases, then look on the server I play on to see if those locations are available then I'll stick an outpost there (on the server) while I build it in single player to see what resources I'll need. (I am clanless on the server I play on).
Pretty much agree with all you quoted here. The only thing is the assault rifle. Single player you don't need that as you don't make enough damage on Dinos to be worth using engrams on. Also you get the behemoth gate the lowest tier you can get and I think it's stone because some of the bigger Dinos won't fit in the regular Dino gate and neither the megaladon would fit for your water pen.
I mainly focus on learning those things I need to make in the field, and critical stuff in the early game. For saddles you might want to get a couple early on just so you can ride a raptor or something else before you find a blueprint of actual saddle drop.
If you are careful about what you learn you shouldn't have any problem running out of points.
I have had the same SP experiance with the drops... they seem so much worse than when i was on an offical server.
