If you play on a PVP server, oxygen will always be far more reliable for ocean stuff. If scuba doesn't affect swim speed then oxygen is still far more reliable. If a megalodon jumps you and your dino swims off or dies you can still out swim a megalodon with 600 oxygen.
In ethier case your high oxygen charater is not useless as he still got a lot more oxygen and will be a faster swimmer than anyone else not matter what method is used.
Personally I think it will be method 1.
Movement speed is what effects your swim speed, not Oxygen. Tested it in single player, Oxygen does not change how fast you swim in the slightest, Movement speed is easily noticable.
I see no reason as to why a 600 oxygen character would skip the scuba gear, it just adds to the ocean survivability. It might even be a % boost rather than cumulative.
Lets just wait for the patch yeah?
I dont think thats right. From what ive read the swimspeed raises slightly when you put some points into oxygen as a side effect. The Movespeed stat however has a larger impact on swimming speed than the oxygen stat.
