Best way to get stone?
I need a LOT of stone for an upcoming build. Gathering by hand/axe gets more than my anky but it still takes quite a while where I'm at. I clear out all the stones from my area pretty quick but it's not anywhere close to the amount I need.

Where on the map is the best place to grind stone? As in, a large concentration of metal/regular rocks? (metal rocks give a LOT of stone when gathered with a metal axe)
Does anyone have any stone-gathering methods?

Run along the beach and become best friends with your E button.

It's a good idea to bring a Beast of Burden along to increase carrying capacity.

When you need a good 3000+ stone for a large build, gathering by hand is a tedious chore. Metal rocks actually put out a LOT of stone really fast when gathered with a metal axe, so I guess I should be asking where the largest concentration of rocks can be found.

In that case id recommend the tops of mountains, i'm not familiar with the southern ones but I know the north eastern mountain is very good for it (Flat surface at the top with a lot of rock spawns there and close by down the path)

pump melee dmg and hit boulders with a high quality metal axe to get stone quickest.

use argents for pack birds. even a low level one has 350-400 weight, get 3-4 of them, get like 30-40 cooked meat to combat the cold starving you, have 3ish hatchets, fly on a pteranadon with 3-4 argents on follow, fly up to a mountain and smash out the metal rocks. can easily get 1.5-2k stone a trip, especially off the mountain in the very centre of the map.

Adding to this id recommend sticking a few forges in an area without many rocks in the mountain, because you'll get a lot of metal that would best be processed before transporting back to a base.
Sparkpowder would make a good fuel up there.

that or throw down a couple of large storage boxes and throw all the metal you find in them, cause if youre mainly after stone and dont want to worry about metal for the minute, that means youre at least not throwing it away, then you can set up some forges to get it all back to base when you have heaps of metal stored up. cause the metal you get from exclusively using a hatchet is actually not all that much considering.

running along the beach is still faster in my opinion then flying to mountains to gather stone, the time you prob need flying there ive already got 300 on the Beach.

i net 1k-3k per stone run at my base. I go up river on one side and back on other. More stone then my Mamoth and Rex can hold together. I have to craft on way to save weight.

is more than made up for with how many stone gotten from smashing a metal rock with an axe 4-5 times. plus you always get extra resources this way anyway, extra crystals, obsidian, metal, as well as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of stone.

Hold in your hits longer.

If you can find a good blueprint for a higher quality hatchet, you'd be all set. Personally, I use my mammoth to follow me since I've been pumping its weight almost exclusively (up to almost 700 now). And I have a ramshackle hatchet which I looted off an alpha-raptor. With it and my mammoth, I can usually get a fair amount of stone before both me and my mammoth are loaded and we have to get back to base to drop it off.

The argent trick works too. If you can tame a decent level Argent, pump points into its Weight, Stamina & Speed. You'd have a flying pack mule for even faster transportation and stone gathering.

To build our castle, we needed 25000 stone, and are almost done. We've collected stones by taking birds to mountains and hitting rich metal(gold) rocks. It's tedious, and helps if you have multiple people gathering. I use ankylos often, and I can get almost 10 stacks on the mountain I live on, but my best ankylo is 1142% damage and mate boosted.
