1) Use fence foundations to create an enclosed perimeter.
2) Use foundations/pillars to make a flat area and enclose it, meaning walls and ceiling.
Both options use dino gates of either size (normal/behemoth) but #2 is safer than #1, if you're on PvP that is. If you're on PvE then I say let them suckers roam free.
Pretty much this, except for letting them roam free, that's a good way to get them killed in some areas.
As Kerher says, #2 is the better option if you are on a flat enough area to build the pen on and have enough resources to do it. It will take longer than fence foundations and a gate though, especially if you want to enclose the entire pen with a roof.
But a 4-5 high fence with fence foundations and a gate will serve you just as well, just not against aerial attacks.
I was mostly teasing about the roaming free bit. Though there is a way to keep your dino's on aggressive while making sure they don't run off.
The trick is to enclose one mountable dino inside of an enclosed area so that it is unable to get out, set it to passive then hop onto it and hit J making sure that all of the dino's you would like on aggressive are now following said dino. This ensures that they will defend themselves without running away. If lured too far away from the dino they are following they will return.
On a side note this is also something I'd recommend to do with fliers if you don't have an enclosed pen for them because otherwise they will fly off, kill something, and stay there. Rinse and repeat. Often you'll see your birds 100's of feet in the air with no way to get them unless you have another flier.
Wood is cheapest option... Are you playing pve?
Make your Dino Pen / Paddock Double Walled this way so that you can access the space between the walls and walk there.
Host of reasons to do this, primary reason for me - it prevents dino's from glitching thru your walls on wander.
Always double wall.
2. Start small. You can always expand, or move, later as you get more dinos.
3. You most likely will not be staying at your present location. You will find a better spot later and WANT to move.
4. To reduce the amount of resources you need, use the terrain to your advantage. Build on a cliff... then you only need to protect 2 or 3 sides. (hint, don't build at the bottom of a cliff... agressive dinos jump. Build at the top)
5. Even a 1 or 2 high fence keeps out most dinos. A 3 high will even stop a rex unless he is persistent.
6. Do not allow rocks to provide a ramp for an agressive dino to hop your fence. Harvest the boulder and throw down a foundation to keep it from respawning.
sooo much better then any vanilla applications
once u pop u cant stop (i have 148 dino pens now
Pens / Walls made from walls of Dino Gates are severely boo.
