Gunpowder requirements seem high

Is it me, or does it seem really expensive to create bullets due to the gunpowder requirements?

We have a farm of 50 campfires constantly burning wood to make charcoal. Then we are constantly grinding sparkpowder to make gunpowder.

Am I doing it wrong? Is there a better method for making gunpowder than farming charcoal with campfires?

No you are doing it right. Devs have stated on multiple occasions that they do not want this to turn into COD with dinos, hence the bullet cost. Ankylo really helps though with the spark powder part.

What about the automated turrets? I mean, we are just now starting to create them, and are assuming they'd soak through bullets.

Only if set to all creatures i recommend them only shooting people and their tames

What we did was make 30 or so standing torches.

Filled them with wood and left them. In a few days we had thousands of charchoal.
