Non Dedicated Server Max player Count Help

Looking for a simple way to increase the Max Player count on a non dedicated server from (4) to (5)

I recently aquired Ark and I was so impressed with it, I bought and gifted 4 of my friends. We have been playing on the non dedicated server, since we do not want to run a dedicated server at this time. However the non dedicated server only allows 4 players max.

I have looked at vids, read guides, read wiki, search on forums, googled for the past 3 days. and I cant find a definitive way of doing this one simple thing.

Surely there must be a way to increase the player count by (1) somehow...?

I've tried the gameUserSettings.ini in
"steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsServer"
and also in
"steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor"
just to be safe.

I've then changed the variable "MaxPlayers" to 8 (< the only logical thing that could cause this) and still, only 4 players could join.
Some people have more than 3 friends.

There was no line for max player so I added:

MaxPlayers=5


I am waiting to see if it works.,. dont have my 4 online at the same time till weds..

I realize this is an old post, but did you ever find a solution to this issue, i.e., were you able to increase the max players to 5?

No, there was no way, at the time to increase the count... So instead I simply went and got a dedicated server host..

For a small monthly fee you can then have all your friends log in.. and theres no more rubber band.. we could be at different ends of the island without issue..

Non-dedicated servers can barely support the 4 players much less 20 or 30. The reasons are mostly due to hardware limitations. Sure some computers would be able to run a 100 slot non-dedicated server just fine but your talking custom built computers with enough threading in the CPUs to handle that much data AND process all the data for the host PC in his game instance. Not to mention that on the average internet connection you would lack the bandwidth to actually do it as well, your ISP may even throttle you unless you have a special package with them that gives you higher bandwidth limits.

Its pretty cheap to rent a server for Ark these days, even cheaper if you just lease a VPS since you can do so much more with it.

For anyone else that finds this thread, I ended up renting 3 servers from https://www.activegamehost.com/. Their service was really good and by renting 3 servers I was able to run the Island, Scorched Earth and Valguero in a cluster so my family and I could transfer our avatar and dinos between maps just like on official. It cost about $32 a month total and I recommend it if you are looking for an alternative to trying to play on a non-dedicated server which has lots of limitations.
