Mammoth, Spino, Bronto and Sarco all need a Behemoth gate, everything else fits fine through the regular dino gates including a Rex. For water stuff I think you need the Behe gate for sharks, plesi and sarco but turtles and icky fits fine in regular gate.

The following dinos aren't able to fit in to a normal dino gate:

Mammoth
Brontosaurus
Spinosaurus
Sarcosuchus
Megalodon
Plesiosaur

The Rex should also be unable to as well but it seems a little conflicting regarding this. Mounted on the rex, unable to fit through. But if you dismount, the rex is able to come in though you gotta line it up to walk in directly though the middle.

You can fit a rex through a normal gate easily without demounting it. The Rex moddle is like 2 foot tall (which is why it gets stuck on ANYTHING)

Rexes goes through dino gates easily. They can also enter a 1x1 house, due to the way the moddle is.

Rex works through normal gate fine and Spinos we dont need no stinking gates since they can climb a 2 high wall on flat and 3 high on an up or down hill.

If you keep your walls just 2 high, what's keeping wild spino's/bronto's, or other players on bronto's/spino's from entering your base? I mean, spikes don't do enough damage to stop a decent tamed spino from walking over it.
