I've had this several times. Try to let it follow you and swim away. It might get unstuck then. Sometimes you have to swim away quite far.

^ this you have to basically do a 360 degree on land and it might get unstuck. however i just had a lvl 33 Dolphin refuse to get unstuck because he was basically outside of the water completely.

for some unknown reason they only way to get a water dino to get unstuck is by going directly on land and have it follow you. this will cause it to start turning towards you and helping it get unstuck. but it's a bug because it only works on land because in water they don't even turn at all to follow you if they are stuck.

as long as they are within a reasonable water to land ratio they should get unstuck but when they are 99.9% outside of water it's a waste of time.

yeah its pretty much a waste of time. go to the gult region. it's like the gulf of mexico. located near the northeast heading towards Far's Peak Mountain and the North East Shores. it's basically two strips of land with a lake in the middle which creates a little gulf of mexico.

you'll find plenty of dolphins there to tame underwater. if there's sharks there be sure to kill them so that you can tame and pick the highest level dolphins.

it's a real shame i couldn't get the lvl 33 stuck dolphin. oh well i guess my lvl 7 will have to make do for now.

I have found a way that may work for some. If you can, build a raft. If you are able to get it further onto the beach than the Ichthyosaurus, You can clip into it slightly. After doing so, dismount the raft; the collision will return to the raft and push the ichthyosaur back into deeper water.

*Note: You musn't have the Ich set to either wander or follow you.

I tried everything, after mine got stuck a foot above the water. I got him out by setting him to "attack my target" and punching a coel. If you don't have one near you, lure another ichthy to you and punch that. Hopefully you get it unstuck!
Setting them on wander can also work. Some people have had luck with building something beneath them too. I had one stuck that none of these things helped with, but I'm on an unofficial server with a friendly and helpful admin; if you're on a saddle on the ichthy, they can teleport you and the ichthy with you to deeper water.

I was able to free 2 itchy that was stuck beyond anything I could do, and was able to free them with a raft, get it to follow you then use the raft and ram it (drive over the itchy) in the direction that after you run it, it could get free if it would be able following you. Ram it over and over, after 5 to 10 times, maybe more, depending how bad it is stuck, it will get free.

had the issue with it being stuck very far out of the water, turning it to aggressive and enabling wandering worked for me. try it out

I had the same problem, but you can definitely get it off the beach. Mine was floating above the water, not touching it at all, just over the beach, and through a combination of setting it to "attack my target" then punching a Coel, and also putting a saddle on it and wiggling it around, you can definitely get it off the beach. Good luck!

just do command ghost and you will swim under the map and into deeper water

Teleporting worked great. No messing around trying to "wiggle", setting to attack, pushing or punching. Of course you have to be an admin and be able to get to the management window. It is a bug so a little cheating is allowed.

If anyone is still having this problem, here's an easy fix, I tried everything above and none of it worked. Just use a cryopod on the dolphin, then go to a deeper part of water and deploy it, done! I'm surprised I didnt think of it sooner. I just used this on the 3 that I had stuck. Also keep in mind they will be affected by cryo sickness for a few minutes, but after that youre golden.
