Dino Stat Caps
Is there an official word on effective stat caps? I keep seeing people talk about Dino Melee Caps at 500% and it's useless to go beyond that.

Where is there any official info on any such caps?

Well all I can tell you is that my scrops torp has continually gone up with melee%. He's up to 625% melee now and torps at over 300 on soft hit boxes.

Well I am more interested in the Saber and Mammoth caps related to gathering. I wish it mattered on my Scorpian, however, scorpian hit registration has been broken for many of us for over a week now. I am lucky to score 1 out 50 hits with a Scorpian no matter what camera angle I attack at. Anyhting larger than a Raptor an my Scorpian will not make a hit.

Gotta be right up against it. Mobs that knock back make things exceedingly difficult with a scorp. I use a tank pet, and sting from behind. :) Even glancing blows reduce torp/sting.

The 500% is for harvesting dinos, not fighting dinos. Right now, only 500% of their melee stat gets translated into extra resources when you harvest with them. So for them more than 500% is wasted points. For fighting dinos... the only thing better than more damage is even more damage.

Thanks for the clarification!

Where is the official word on this limitation?

I can't say this is true as I see a different in carnivores (saber/carno/pleiso/rex) over 500 when harvesting corpses.

i think he misunderstood something i think its that people talk about 500% for farming animals cuz the overflow of resources has been capped at 5x the normal gain

thats the only thing i could think of other than that dmg doesnt cap at 500% only the amount of resources you can get from a tree/bush/iron/stone etc is capped at 500% the normal value

hope that clears it up wouldnt have heard about something else and it wouldnt make sense xD

considering that over-gathering wasn't intended feature and more like it just happened and its going to be completely replaced in near future, that 500% cap seems to made up.
I doubt damage for gathering will matter in the future. Since gathering dinos will have multipliers associated with them and resources will have set amount of quantity in them.

I could be wrong, but:

Patch 182.1:
* Limited overdamage (overharvest) of resources to 5x the total resource health, to avoid server lag giving hundreds of berries in one hit on a plant.

So: Dino with 100% damage gets 100% resources, so 500% would get the maximum of 5x resources.

Don't get confused with melee % and 5x total resource health. For example, to keep things simple, let's say that a dino's base damage is 50. He has 500 melee % so he does 250 damage. Now the "tree" has 50 health. So when he hits it he does more damage then the tree has. However.... the 5x resource health cap means you can actually do 250 (50x5) damage to the tree to get resources. So in this case raising his melee for JUST harvesting would be pointless. But if the tree had more health or the dino did less then 50 base and you would need more.

Make sense?

was just too lazy to ctrl+f the patch notes xD

Hmm, I have done no official testing; but I swear that my Tribes cats (all leveled within the last week) haveb een getting quite a bit more Chitin from kills when going past 500%. they are around 900-1000% now, and definitely feel like im getting a lot more per kill.

Cat used to get about 10-20 per kill, around 500% it was about 20-30, now at almost 1000% I am getting almost 50 per scorp killed.

the server I play on has 1.5x gathering I think; but no other significant changes... so, I would say if there is a cap; its pretty high.

thats indeed true and sadly didnt have time to check the exact dmg needed per dino yet but your point is the way to go

so some dinos might need only 300% while others need 700% to get the full resources
