Are mammal eggs just a placeholder?
I understand why mammals are goinng to lay eggs when breeding comes out, so that the devs can have a conveinient system that is the same for all creatures in order to test how breeding animals works out. But will creatures for which it is correct actually give live birth at some point, or will it always be eggs? Because personally, my immersion will take a big hit whenever I see a mammoth lay an egg. One could even have something that essentially behaves like the eggs in the game, but call it a newborn, and make it look like a little animimal, and I would be much happier.

I hope it is only placeholder. Unless all the mammals are part platypus.
I was just thinking this as I reread the patch notes. I hope it's a placeholder too. On the other hand, if that *is* their intention, kind of has to make you wonder how much of what's in the game right now are placeholders.

Reminds me of my theory that the dinosaurs lack feathers because they got lice from dodos...
was there an official explanation of that patch note? I did read "all creatures will lay eggs" or some such, but there's like only 3 creatures I can think of that wouldn't. Mammoth, sabres, and phiomias? I believe that's it, or are there bats too? havn't been in caves yet but I think I read about bats. I just assumed the proper exclusions would be excluded from that broad statement.
Sometimes Compromises need to be made for gameplay sake, I think eggs are something that might be required reguardless of inaccuracys.
Frankly I'm both hurt and offended that:

1) You would have anything to say that even remotely slights the majesty of nature that is the platypus.

2) You would pidgeonhole the creatures in our game into typical racial stereotypes like "ooh mammals don't lay eggs".

Maybe you should spend a little time thinking about the feelings of the things you're going to lash out at.

People would feel better feeding eggs to dinos than live baby sabercats.
the raptors wouldn't feel better tho...
I would hope to think it's a place holder. They could always make the kibble concept more complex in the future as well. Instead of an egg, it would need multiple ingredients. Ex For a rex: Rex egg+ prime meat+ etc. And with creatures that don't lay eggs would simply just have kibble made out of non egg components. Ex for a mammoth: Preferred berry x50+ Fiberx50 + etc

Ok, so if you add a playtapus, it can be 10 times as strong as A T. Rex and lay eggs. How is that for a comprimise for sabertooth kittens instead of eggs?
imho you are dropped on a mysteriouse island with an implant in your arm and weird obelisks in the sky..... obviously a situation plotted out by someone or something other than you that is tecnologically advanced. i dont think it is to much of a streach of the imagination to assume that every animal on the island was genetically engenered, which makes egg laying in mammals alot more beleivable.... besides if we wanted to get crazy how do we even know the island is on earth or that the annimals are from earth fossils and species....

anyway thats my rant its a game use your imagination

p.s. i know i spell bad japanese is my native tounge
I certainly hope its placeholders. I know that will then make a difference in how eggs versus mammals work for training pets, but embrace it Wildcard, embrace it.

Possibly just have the egg hatch immediately upon being laid, and increase the timers for that species to avoid overpopulation?
Fantasy world with fantasy creatures and seeing mammals lay eggs breaks immersion? They are fantasy, they could have wings and still be fine as long as that is the lore. There is no lore yet, so make it up yourself. In this fantasy world these are mammals that lay eggs.
