Video Experiment: Fastest Speed - Raptor vs Sabertooth vs Carno vs T-Rex vs Spino
I made a track, spawned level 1s, and timed each animal's speed and stamina longevity to find out which one's the fastest:

https://youtu.be/_Lg86yRLWlk

The number you see when the dino crosses the yellow tile at the beginning and the red tile at the end is like a stopwatch lap timer. I subtracted the two numbers to get the total time the dino took to complete the lap (since I don't know how to edit in an actual stopwatch lol).

I'm definitely not an editor, so please forgive the crudity of the video. Hopefully, this vid will help inform some decisions.

PS: The Raptor always starts at 120% movement speed and the Saber always starts at 130% - if you know of a way to get it to exactly 100%, please let me know.

Conclusion:

Sprint Speed:
#1) The Sabertooth and the T-Rex are basically tied for the fastest sprinters of the dinos tested here. Though when the Sabertooth spams 'Jump' while sprinting, its speed goes up by ~60%, making it the real fastest sprinter
#3) Raptor is the third fastest sprinter
#4) Carno
#5) Spino

Longevity:
#1) The Sabertooth can sprint for the longest amount of time before getting tired. It can complete my track at full sprint speed ~6 times before running out of stamina. With the sprint jump spam, it can complete it 3.9x
#2) Raptor can complete the track 4.3x before getting tired
#3) Carno can complete it 3.1x
#4) Spino 2.7x
#5) T-Rex 2.1x

also note the ammount creatures ramp per point in speed which is always a set amount per species, for example raptors ramp at 2.5% per point and sabers at 3.3 i think (same result in the end i think)

Yup, my experiences in game have pretty well matched your test results. The saber gets huge bonuses to jumping, and if there's a slight downhill slope he can take major advantage of it (though be careful of extreme downhill slopes as those can cause tons of damage when landing).

I am curious how the scorpion would fare in the mix as he has one of the fastest walks (not consuming any stamina), but gains the least from sprinting.

Also a couple of additional notes not addressed in your testing...

- Spino swims faster than it runs and consumes no stamina while swimming (will actually regenerate).
- Spino can climb and maneuver over more rocks and obstacles than the TRex can.
- Saber can jump higher/further than any other animal (so far at least). Allowing him to jump over canyons or rocks that others might have to walk around(obviously not counting flying mounts here).
- Scorpion can climb most obstacles making him the most versatile for mountain climbing for example.

Yeah, I actually prefer the Spino for that reason. You can mostly just run and not have to look back as much with it. The T-Rex can be a sticky idiot in forests. Very annoying. And yeah, I love that the Spino can swim like a boss.

Something important to note about the saber is that there is currently some sort of bug where if you time your jumps just right (jump again exactly as or just before you land) he will add the jump boost to speed to the already flying speed and I have had times where I have properly linked 5 jumps and been moving so fast the game couldnt keep up (this is best achieved on flat ground or a slight decline)

Spino also has great stam regen/lower stam delay, so the difference gets even more pronounced over longer distances.

given that saber starts at 130 and raptor starts at 120, assuming you maxed both speeds, which is faster?
how many levels would be required to max speed on all creatures?
hostage67 Jul 12, 2015 @ 7:30pm
Raptor Base = 120%
Raptor = 2.5% per level
Sabertooth Base = 130%
Sabertooth = 3.3% per level

You get 40 levels max (speed is always consistent regardless of level and TE when taming).

Sabertooth = 250% speed
Raptor = 220% speed

Add on top of that the 60% speed bonus you get by jumping while running with the sabertooth and your speed just goes nuts.

i figured there might have been a speed cap. that seems not to be the case. maybe i should keep pumping speed on my pteranodon afterall?

It isn't noticeable at first, but at 200% speed the pteranodon is fast as hell. Got my latest up to about 170% and he's a quick little bugger. There were some video's on youtube where they were testing their turrets against fast pteranodons and at 200% speed, the turret couldn't lock on and fire fast enough to hit them.
