Question About Healing Brew/Tonic

I was curious if anyone has an issue with making the Healing Brew. I have all of the ingredients, and it does make the healing brew, however my issue is that it seems to make the red dye at the same time as the Healing Brew. This is doubling the amount of Tintoberries and water that I'm having to use.

Am I doing something wrong? Ingredients that I put in the cooking pot:

Wood
Tintoberries
Narcotics
Waterskins
Healing Brew Recipe (I know this isn't required, but I thought I would try putting the recipe in there to see if it would disable the production of Red Dye, but no luck).

keep taking charcoal out or use sparkpowder to cook it, as water+tintoberry+charcoal is red dye

Use thatch instead of wood. Wood produces charcoal and when there is charcoal in the cooking pot it tries to make the dye first.
