so yes i 100% agree dilos are the nastiest dino for hunting around. But problem with large squad of dilos is to keep an eye on them xD. They have a tendency to get stuck in just about everything including the floor lol.
This is precisely the reason I don't care for packs of tamed animals, it's so easy to be going about your routine and some of them get stuck or lag behind you cause you to have to constantly watch them more than anything else. I prefer having a singular powerful dinosaur, prferably mounted up so I know precisely where it's at and doing at all times (since I am in direct control of it)
I have an army of about 24 dilos at the moment, theyre great at killing anything, especially with their blind attack that slows enemies.
The biggest problems are managing their inventories and levels, feeding them (although I could just go kill some things and set them to eat the corpses, i'd still have to sort out the inventories afterwards), and them getting stuck on things occasionally. However after a while with a pack, you learn how to effectively move them through areas without them getting stuck anywhere near as much - this is a useful skill.
People over look Dilos quite often because they are weak one on one but I walk around with a small pack on an Unoffical PvP server with max difficulty and they can drop large prey faster then a lvl 105 raptor that can take down a Trex on it's own.
Plus they are great guard dogs, we actually have some raptors roaming our complex with the Dilos following them. So even fliers can't really try to snipe because Dilos can spit right back!
This is more about that they're underestimated. Saber's aren't underestimated, Dilos are because they are small and weaker alone.
Also, 6 sabers would take a lot longer to tame than a dilo force of comparable strength. It's esy to tame even four dilos at once.
a herd of 7 raptors did just as good as the herd of 15 dilo's.
I was a little amused and a little sad after watching those really cool videos of people doing majestic, large-scale moves with multiple large dinos, nice and spread out, roaming across the plains. As I set out with my land crew to move my home and do the same it.. was a bit different. It was a clunky ball of dino meat all clumped together, trying to follow me and getting stuck on everything along the way. My scorpion even got left behind halfway through the trip and I didn't realize it until I was making a run back with the sabre and found him stuck on a rock and bush, full of hide and meat.
If you have the narcotics stocked up which is easy to do atm you can solo tame 6 sabers at once. Build a small tower in the mountains. One foundation 2 walls high with ladders and ceiling you can stand on. Lure a bunch of sabers to it and just tranq them down from on top of tower. Sabers tend to roam in packs of 3 so this is easy. Then after they are knocked out build fence around them and ceiling to keep birds and other Dinos out. Then throw 300 narcotics on each and then jump on a Rex and just farm all the dinos in the area for meat. Will prob need to make 2 towers with 3 sabers being tamed at each. Build all the necessary walls... Etc before hand and you can do it no prob. I tamed 5 sabers at the same time solo in about 2..5-3 hrs this way. Do this a couple times and you can have a saber army.
sure but what you gonna do if a spino or t-rex's gets a hit on you and 1 shots you b4 your dilo army can do anything about it ? ;p ill be safe on my raptor saddle also the birds have to come in range to attack so they will get shred the second they do and if its a player carrying an other player your dilo's spit wont reach them if their sniping you from high up anyway
Building all the necessary structures and parts, gathering all the resources for essentially two towers and walled compounds, and the extra meat, time and effor in taming them... This hardly seems 'easy'. The tactic also requires some dino capable of farming meat already, dilos can be tamed from fish and dodo's easily enough. Not to mention, if you lose one, it's no big deal.
