Over Heathing with Hide Clothes

I have a complete set of Hide Clothes and I get so hot I have to take them off to cool down... bug?

It's not a bug. Hide is hot.

They have not implemented a proper game mechanic to protect yourself from the elements yet, aside from the different armor sets.
Cloth is the only armor that currently protects you from heat.
ALL of the other armor sets will make you more hot.

Hide is the best right now for keeping you warm. Cloth is the best for keeping you cool. Being in shelter will increase your heat insulation (hyperthermic) and also your cold insulation (hypothermic). Any type of clothing that isn't cloth actually makes you more hot than if you wear nothing. This is particularly something to watch out for in the southern parts of the map. The answer is to keep yourself well supplied with water if you plan on being in hot areas or simply to remove clothes that are making you hot. You can also increase your fortitude which increases both hyper and hypo insulations though you would have to invest quite a few points to notice more than a marginal difference.

*You can also mix clothing types to help regulate depending upon your planned environment.

Like others have said, cloth armor is your only choice. Also keep in mind all being hot does is lower your thirst. So if you are near water it won't affect you until you are completely out of water.
