In short, you can drink any water source in the game. Contamination does not exist. So just walk into a body of water or wait for it to rain and you will become hydrated. You can also make water skins to carry water around.

**You have to go deep enough that the swim action takes over**

On some maps, when it rains your water level will fill to full, other than that - yes what Rogue said, use E key - and I'll add: if that does not work you may be to far away, need to pretty much be standing and in some cases crouched depending on terrain. Hope this is useful to you, have fun ;)
