Argentavis get killed by tranq arrows....?
Yeah so I just found the perfect Argentavis..The thing is, it was at the red obelisk. So I bait him all the way to my base which is on the Island on 85,85 South East...So yeah basically the whole map. Took me 1 hour. Arrive at my base, get my narcotics and arrow real quick, set everything to passive, he comes.

''You Killed an Argentavis lvl 34''

REALLY 10 freaking tranq arrows!? For a lvl 34..

Something isn't right about that.

How are you supose to Tame it if 10 tranq arrows kill it. LVL 34!!

Ya, after the buff to damage for birds they die pretty frequently. There are a couple of keys to help you however...

- Make sure they are not damaged, if they just got done fighting something you will likely kill them.
- Only do Headshots, this reduces the number of shots required thus reducing the amount of damage they take. Argentavis will charge directly at you, and you can use that to your advantage in order to get headshots on them.
- Alternately you could try using a scorpion (haven't tried this myself yet), but since it isn't a ranged weapon I don't think this gets the damage bonus that the arrows do, so it may be easy to tranq one without killing it this way.

That's a common problem with higher level animals: their torpor rises faster than their health (depending on how it randomly increased its levels). The raw damage of tranq arrows might kill it before their torpor reaches 0.

Recommendable strategy is not trying to hit their head, as the regular damage from armor is doubled or tripled there. Also, don't overshoot them. The narcotic effect of tranq arrows is a DoT effect. Try to leave a couple of seconds between shots. You might need less arrows than you think.

I wouldn't fix it, because it makes higher level dinos also harder to knock unconscious, which I personally consider a good thing.

I think you got that confused the other way around.

Sadly you have to use a scorpion - birds take 6x dmg from arrows including tranq.
You might end up not killing them with tranq but startimg effectivity will be very low

Starting taming effectivity is not influenced at all by the health they have.

Maybe it took some dmg before you start to tranq it, had that sometimes too that a bird dies after 5-6 tranqs but if they're full hp, they have enough hp to get tranqd,

only problem is there's no way to see there health, so you'll need some luck to find one that is full hp

PS. i knew that would come after ppl crying about them being to OP, now they will cry cause they die to fast.

I haven't tried to tame an argentavis since they patched it, but someone once told me that when using tranq arrows, to never pull all the way back as this amounts to maximum damage dealt. Could this make a difference on it or were you already shooting "soft" tranqs OP?
DO NOT hit the bird in the face.! I had the same problem, and when i diddent hit it in the face i could tame it with no problem.

Exactly, Headshots increase damage, but torpor amount is flat and not influenced by hitzone. Hitting the head makes the matter worse.
Also what Sperber said, wait between shots for torpor to tick up, I´m not sure how long it is for arrows but between Scorp hits its generally advised to wait 10 seconds to let the torpor tick up. Torpor will not stack up (as in, multiple shots in a short period will not increase the torpor gain). Multiple shots just renew the timer of the "DoT" while doing damage anyway.

I generally hate the argentavis at the moment. Yetserday i spent a significant amount of time taming one, which proved successful. However, upon landing my newly tamed argentavis at base camp it continued to fly, got tangled in my spiked defenses (which were a significant way from my chosen landing location) and then subsequently died - Happy days!

Thats odd then we knocked out a level 45 argent with 50/550hp left. Did start with raw prime meat @ 74% effectivity

Not quite correct.

Taming effectiveness also goes down fast when the animal takes damage while it's unconscsious. It can happen that if you rapidfire it with tranq arrows, that it falls unconscious while another arrow is still in flight. If that hits, you get a pretty hefty drop in the initial tamin effectiveness.

I've always gotten better starting values to begin with, when I've took my time with shooting the arrows.

Shoot it then wait 10 secs for the narco arrow to work then shoot it again, repeat until it goes down.
p.s. lvl 34 is not perfect look for a lvl 55-58 :) they are epic

Nooblets : I said perfect because he was all black with orange wings. Tough that was pretty awesome. :(
