ARK Survival Evolved Won't start for MAC :(

I am using a MacBook Pro, and I don't have access to a gaming computer. I just successfully downloaded ARK, made a shortcut for it, and then when I open it, it opens for about 5 seconds and then it crashes for an unknown error. I am also not computer savvy, so if somebody could give me a step-by-step solution to solve this, it would be GREATLY apprectiated! All my friends have already started and I can't figure it out :(.

What are the computer specifications?

RAM: My Mac has 4 GB, but I have a disk that gives me 400 GB, so I have plenty of storage (Plus it downloaded with no problem)
CPU: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, 13.3-inch (1280 x 800)

I am guessing you diden't read the minimum requirements for the game?

CPU: Is not good, but will run it. (At minimum)
GPU: Is far, far below the minimum requirements of the game.
RAM: I think you got confused and gave me your Harddrive amount. (Also, 4GB RAM would be at the minimum requirement threshold, barely running it)

Your Mac is not strong enough for gaming things like this. (It simply might crash because the Mac can't keep it going because it is to weak.)

Performance suggestion:
Get a proper computer, with a dedicated graphic card. The Intel onboard
graphics is pretty much a web-browsing or video-watching card, and is
pretty horrible. A GTX 760 or better for a pretty smooth framerate at 45-60 at mostly High and some on Medium graphic

Thanks Shalix. But I would rather not get a new computer. Could I upgrade this on my mac? What things do I need to upgrade for it to run smoothly and what should I get?

Mac's have pretty much no expandability, as apple reduced the amount of material, and size of the computers so it can barely have more screws in it. Honestly you need about a Intel i5 - 3.4GHz+ something like a Nvidia GTX 760 and about 8GB RAM to run it relatively smoothly.

actually some do, not so much the MacBooks, but even they have what every basic laptop has that can be expanded. Ram and hard drive. A Mac is basically a pricey laptop. sure, it can't run a whole lot of games, but thats more towards software side than hardware side. Slap a fresh install of windows 7 or better in one, make sure you have all your proper drivers and updates, and you have yourself a entry/basic level gaming laptop. Now, you want to talk about the desktops? they are HIGHLY expandable, as far as the older G series is concerned. The 2008 Mac Pro G5 can still handle even the newest graphics cards, and can handle the more business end Intel Xenon processors.

Are you serious lmao, I think this is so bad. I have a Macbook Pro which I bought a couple years ago which cost me 17,000 Swedish crowns which define like 1,700 dollars. Can't start the game, what did the money buy me so far? Well, it cost me 1700 dollars, GTA 5 and Ark Survival.

I saw others play Ark on Macbooks which is why I thought I could play it too... Eh well well money thrown in a lake, let's move on I guess.

Holy Necro-bump Batman!! This thread was started 5 years ago and the last reply was 3 years ago.

Anyway, afiak Ark is currently not starting for Mac. I was broken for Linux and I think Mac on the Feb 26th update. I was fixed for 2 days for Linux before the game was updated and they broke it again. Not sure if it was fixed for Mac for the same 2 days...

I'm guessing that the issue is the same for Mac, but for Linux they pushed a broken binary in the update. If I understand it correctly the game looks for a video card with OpenGL support but because of the broken binary, it fails to find a card and crashes.

to be fair though, if its really a big issue you could go through the steam website and request a refund for the game. worst case if you dont want to do that, you could run windows in bootcamp
