For mainboard drivers, MSI offers a slow (I get download speeds of under 100kb/s sometimes) but decent working tool called "Live Update" to update all mainboard related stuff (even BIOS update!). You might be able to find more recent drivers for audio or network directly from the chip manufacture (usually http://www.realtek.com/downloads/ and http://www.killernetworking.com/support/driver-downloads), but the versions distributed by MSI should be fine as well and can be more comfortably kept up to date.
I recently upgraded to 8.1 from 7, I did this straight after Ark Downloaded. Windows took it upon itself to do a clean installl so thus me having to redownload everything...
To cheat the download, I simply started the download then paused it, proceeded to copy the Ark contents from the Windows.old folder to the "Downloading" folder on the new Windows program files. This showed steam the files were there so the download skipped a chunk of time but I think I screwed up the process.
I am thinking a clean install will fix this?
Something very wrong there. Exactly what, who knows. Going to have to guess.
You fail to mention which version Windows you use. Mention that in next post please.
Driver issue maybe?
I have GTX970, i7 2600k at 4.4Ghz 16GB RAM, Win7 sp1.
353.06 Nvidia drivers from a month or two ago.
In single offline solo play seeing near 30fps typical max with mostly epic settings
and sky details set to lower 1/5th of scale and scale at no more than 80 percent.
Occlusions on , shadows high, rest epic.
Oh, and menu FPS goes nuts to 200 or sometthing here.
So, i'd start with drivers maybe.
Perhaps during upgrade the Nvidia driver install got messed up
Maybe try uninstalling the drivers
Reboot
Make sure windows does not try to find drivers and have
the driver version from nvidia on system you want to install
DO a clean install
I have unistalled the Nvidia driver and doing a clean install...
Hopefully I come right...
If that does not work a clean Ark install then?
I have the same GPU and the same RAM but with an i5 2500K and I get between 50 and 100 fps depending on where I am with no lowered res and a mix of epic/high settings. It's definitely not a system issue.
Yea I know lol
Thats why I think me cheating the download screwed up the install...
Doing the fresh driver now so hopefully ill see some results.
How do I check my files on steam?
tried right clicking on Ark and saw nothing
I. FEEL. LIKE. AN. IDIOT.
Anyways...thanks folks for assisting...often the simple solution is the correct one...down to the usual driver issue...
THANKS :D
