How to pronounce "Chitin"
I have not heard one person say this correctly it seems, I have heard it said like "cheatin" & "chit-in" but apparently its said kiting...

its actually pronounced "cheat - een" in germany.

It's an uncommon word and I know what they are talking about regardless of how they say it, so it doesn't bother me. That being said, when people do get upset about it, I use the wrong one on purpose. I know we all have pet peeves, but it's such a small thing to get worked up over, and if someone decides to be huffy and arrogant about it then that is their problem.

The average adult would have learned the word once and then never used it again. Not exactly 'well known'.
