Build a foundation under it with lots of ladders and then use J command to make him follow you or ask someone you trust and trusts you to unclaim their flying dino to get it down.
My ingame neighbour ptera was stuck like that in the air high up and he borrowed mine to get it down.
my guess is if he can peg it with tranq arrows as he was thinking of trying he is in range for J whistle, There is a chance he is just trying the single target whistle of T that has a much shorter range

As said its way in the sky i was mad at myself as just before that happened i was flying my other Pteranodon and didnt keep a eye on its stamina and well it kicked me off and i died so was trying to get my gear back instead i messed up again so yeah not happy with myself

Also if one runs out of stamina does it land or keep flying?? as i have a idea where i died last night just not sure if it would of landed or stayed in the sky
Thank you for this comment / tip. It took like 70 ladders but I was able to retrieve my bird. Would never have thought to do this. I was lucky though because I reached max ladders and had to stand at the very top and the whistle reached him. Then I fell and somehow lived with 1 health. Got my bird back though!
