[Suggestion] Metal Structures and Their Cost
So lets start this off by looking at 3 pictures.

https://imgur.com/VfawrX6,g1SMgIZ,L6MT6yI#0 (There are "first image", "second image", and "third image" tab's)

What you see is my debatably small house, ignore the fencing around it. Its 5x3 and 3 walls high, 2 floors. I am soon going on vacation, so I considered upgrading my smallish house to metal. So I started doing the math so figure out how much is was going to cost me.

4 of my "Foundations" at the base of my house are really ceiling's. So that leaves just 8 foundations I need to make. And for those 8 foundations:

Each Foundation Cost: 50 Metal Ingots and 15 Cemeting Paste

50*8=400 Metal Ingots
400*2=800 Metal
15*8=120 Cemeting Paste
120*8=960 Stone
120*4=480 Chittin/Keratin

And thats just for the foundations, going onto the ceiling tiles (Which I am not including the ceilings that make the floor for the 2nd floor of my base). So not including the ceilings I used on the 2nd floor, I got 4 at the base of the structures that im using as "Foundations" and 12 more on top of the base, that are actually being used as ceilings. 12+4=16

Each Ceiling Cost: 35 Metal Ingots and 10 Cementing Paste

16*35=560 Metal Ingots
560*2=1120 Metal
16*10=160 Cementing Paste
160*8=1280 Stone
160*4=640 Chittin/Keratin

And now finally for the walls. There are 12 walls each on the long sides of the structure, and 9 on the shorter sides of the structure. So 12(2) + 9(2) = 42 Walls.

Each Wall Cost: 25 Metal Ingots and 7 Cementing Paste

42*25=1050 Metal Ingots
1050*2=2100 Metal
42*7=294 Cementing Paste
294*8=2352 Stone
294*4=1176 Chittin/Keratin

So time to total it all up

400+560+1050=2010 Metal Ingots
2010*2=4020 Metal
120+160+294=574 Cementing Paste
574*8=4592 Stone
574*4=2296 Chittin/Keratin

4020 Metal (Plus all the wood to melt all this metal into ingots)
4592 Stone
2296 Chittin/Keratin

Im convinced that if I went to the nearest mountain, and mined EVERY SINGLE ROCK, I still would not have enough metal or stone to build this.

The most chittin ive ever gotten out of a single scorpion is 10. So lets just assume for once that I got 10 chittin from every scorpion I killed (which I won't, I usually get less). I have to kill approximently 230 scorpions just to get that much chittin? Talk about scorpion genocide... =P

I think the problem is now obvious... thx for reading.

lol the stone is so much harder to get.... chittin is easy mode in a cave or with a rex or spino over 500% dmg. You will have so damn much you cant get the stupid ass stone fast enough.

I can't fit a t-rex in a cave though, plus I don't think there are 230 scorpions in cave, maby 30-50 (assuming its fully loaded and no one has killed anything in there).

I pretty much agree with this post. The metal/chitin requirements are a bit steep, i think that is why they are looking into implementing the stone tier. So there is something a bit easier to obtain before going for metal. And most PvP servers have tribes that have cut off access to the said caves, so trying to hunt and harvest chitin can be quite the chore. Keratin on the other hand is fairly easy to obtain. And as far as stone goes, it's one of the easiest materials to collect, i see no need for an adjustement for stone costs.

I see no need for change with metal.

people seem to be building metal bases without issue on many of the servers.

solo, yes its quite difficult to gather everything to build metal. Tribes have a much easier time.

you can even farm Keratin / chittin with stego's, raptors and trikes.

stone is fairly easy to come by too, if you pick a location that's not good for stone, well that was your choice, and the game doesn't need to be made simpler just because of your choice.

I can hand gather 1500 stone rather quickly to be honest.

There are plenty of places to get metal ore, even in large quanities, just because someone else beats you to it, well same, doesn't mean the game needs to be made simpler.

the most common mistake that i see people doing with their bases is placing them where they have to travel really far to get resources, travel time can really slow down gathering. people could take dino's with them, set up little processing shacks to use while gathering materials, and use the dino's to transport the processed materials. but most just head out, gather, head back process, causing more travel time to do anything. Outposts from the main base can always help, and its really not all that bad if someone takes out the outpost.

I've even put little chests outside my outposts with extra materials for others to take if needed, left the outpost doors unlocked so individuals could go in and use the smithy or crafting table inside, or just as a warm place to stay during the night, In most cases these places have been left standing as they save everyone time.

You want to build the metal house in one evening.... and alone? come on......lazy... stop playing....

There is already in game solutions to make harvesting all this much easier on you. You going to the mountain by yourself, yeah, you'd be lucky to carry off 150 metal.

Now let's say you, an Ankylo leveled to 500% damage and 300 carry weight, a Rex with 500 carry weight, and two Argentavis with 300 carry weight a piece went up to a mountain. That's usually what I take up when I go, and every Dino gets filled to the point where it's movement speed is hindered to about 50%. Ends up being roughly 1200 metal ore.
William Bonney Jun 30, 2015 @ 10:23am
Oh, and it only takes me a single in game Day cycle to complete. I prepare at night, set off at dawn, and leave the mountain at dusk. Usually get back to base a little after midnight to fire up my 5 Smelters. Oh, and a bit of advice. Stop using wood. Sparkpowder is my preferred fuel for anything that does not use Gas. And with that 500% Ankylo, getting flint will not be an issue either.

The costs are fine, if you want the end game building material, you need to work for it. Don't want to work for it? play on an unofficial server where the resource gains are on high.

So yeah, the problem is quite obvious, but it's not the problem you think it is.

How can you get 1.5k stone "rather quickly"? Im not disagreeing im just curious xD, I wanna know ur secret :3. Ive tried mining with a metal hachet, ive tried my anky (with over 500% melee damage), ive tried just running up and down the beaches spamming E.

How do you farm keratin, I normally only get 1-3 per turtle?

Mine rich ore, every metal trip I make about 200 metal & 100 stone which takes about 5 minutes.

Hunt trikes, stegs, sabers, mammoths, turtles, scorpions using a saber with high melee% you will be swimming in keratin/chitin

Use sparkpowder instead of wood. MUCH more efficient. As for gathering metal, it's super easy, just takes time because you can't carry it all at once so you need multiple trips. (hint, head for the BIG mountain at 40/40 on the map.

So you play alone or what? and expect to get highest tier structures without effort?
On carebear mode i understand but getting a metal base in less than 30-40 hours on PVP would be FD up. Why give godmode without effort.
