Why are pearls and oil useful???

I hear a bunch of people saying you should level up your oxygen for the ability to get oil and pearls but all I have seen so far is they can power lights.... Wouldn't I rather mine metal all day to make guns... (There is probably something oil and pearls do that I dont know about)

It's needed for the fabricator, unless my memory fails me horribly.
Not sure I'd spend points on oxygen for it though, as I've had others farm the oil for me :p

Oil and pearls are resources used in high-end guns and explosives. Oil can also be used to power more than just lights, Refrigerators keep perishables lasting longer (we've got some Jerky in our fridge with around 200 DAYS!). If you want Flak Armor you'll need oil to power the fabricator (pearls are a material used to make fabricators as well). Basically, the oil and pearls are the end-game resources.

well my tribe tried guns last night and were very disappointed with them. Sure the rifle can kill a Dilo in 2 shots but so can my spear and it take far less reasorces.

As for pearls and oil I give you three letters G P S.

Pearls are used in both Electronics (and thus anything that uses electronics) and Spino saddles. Oil can be converted to gas to power generators and is used to make Jerky which lasts a much longer period of time for meats (prime cooked or regular),

They are indeed needed for the fabricator. I am still not a very high level player so i cant give you a complete list, but for example pearls are necessary for electronics, that are rly usefull.

200 oxygen is plenty for getting Oil as it spawns on the edge of deep water.
Not sure about pearls as I let to find any.

Oil makes gasoline, gasoline makes fabricator work, fabricator makes fabricated pistol, assault rifle and rocket launcher, gps, C4...
Oil is used to make jerky that last 2 days in your inventory and 20 days in preserving bins.

Pearl are used in spino saddle and gps (electronics)

Forgot about the refrigerator, and air conditioner. Pretty sure in the future more items will be added that need electricity as well. Right now it is fairly limited. Though lighting up your base with lamps is far more convenient than torches. Just turn on the generator and bingo lighted base. With torches you have to keep each one fueled, and light each individual torch manually.

The Fabricatror is used 4 crafting..... big Plate Armor and the "better" guns, Pistol and "AK" u need oil and hide 2 create Gasoline 4 the Fabricator ....

pearls make electronics and are used for certain high level items. Electronics are used to make things like generators, the headlamp, refrigerator, AC units, Auto turrets... You're going to want these things. Oil is used to make the fabricator, gargantuan doorway, safe and when combined with hide in a forge it produces gasoline which powers the fabricator and generator.

I'd say the single most useful tool out of all of these is the refrigerator. Items that spoil in 5 hours (recipes) now last 20 days. The Generator lasts a long time on fuel too, so you aren't constantly going back out and mining more oil.
