Swords?

I feel like this game really needs swords in it...

Just think, stabbing a Stego to death with a fine point steel or obsidian sword.

I want a Katana. A smitar would be cool too, it would look impressive at your side while riding a raptor or something.

As far as fighting dinos a sword would be silly to use compared to a spear. A spear is the best melee option for fighting dinos as it gives you much needed reach, and the focused thrusting power to pierce tougher hides. There is a reason people who hunt animals with a non-ranged weapon use spears. I have never seen a serious hunter chasing down game animals with a sword.

Very true. I would only see things like machetes used for chopping away foilage. I dont see swords getting into this. Daggers and machetes? Sure. Daggers would be a bit useless.

I could see Machetes used for fighting players more effectively and maybe smaller dinos. Maybe also for getting meat or hide more efficently. Maybe Machjetes can be used to collect berries faster.

they might be nice for pvp aspects of the game but like others said spears are better for hunting.

I'd say we're due for a machete. Not just a quick, close quarters weapon, but a reasonable fiber tool. Not unreasonable for it to not show up until the metal tier when you can mass-harvest berries with trikes/stegos and fight with tamed and saddled raptors.

Regular spears I use for fishing. Light enough I can carry a half-dozen, and can be thrown if I can't be arsed to swim up to the damn thing. Pikes are alright for caves, but anywhere else it's about 50x more efficient to just let my raptors fight. If I'm being the aggressor, then it's all bow shots, since the ammo is cheap and plentiful.

Speaking of bows.. metal tipped arrows. gunpowder f'kin sucks. Burn down a forest and level a mountain for a dozen bullets.

Spears are actually better for hunting animals than swords. With a spear and pike you have better reach and can keep animals at a distance. Swords are for killing people, much like the guns in this game.

That said, I'm really hoping to see something more potent for dino-hunting than a bow as a ranged weapon.

yeah, and metal tipped arrows. I'm will you on both counts. Higher projectile speed, maybe even a bow-sight (farcry 3-style).

Yeah, modern compound bows are metal making it a metal tier item. Maybe have some polymer in them too. It's a longshot, but making crude grenade arrows for cheaper than the rpg, and with a much faster drop rate would be fun. Seeing as they do not need their own propulsion ammo should be cheaper. I'm not sure they would do this sort of crafting, but maybe craft a grenade, a metal arrow, and then combine the two for a grenade tipped arrow?

Wait until they add the scifi tier. They said they wanted dino mounted weapons and we may get lasers with the scifi tier.

Wait until they add the scifi tier. They said they wanted dino mounted weapons and we may get lasers with the scifi tier.

I can imagine everyone running around with mounted lasers on dino's, dropping napalms with birds. Kinda boring imho.. :-)

On the other hands would be nice to see forest fires in the game. :D

Obsidian is fragile, but would make a decent dagger/ razor (maybe can be concealed from other players accessing your inventory to give you a weapon upon being kidnapped)
