Can I change my Private server rule from PVE to PVP without losing progress?
Like the title says.

Its a straightfoward question. But the thing I am worried about is losing progress, I am switching to PVP because I think PVE is blocking the ability to build foundations for Catwalks to get to othersides of caves.

Any help will be thankfull

(I got the info on cave destroying stuff built in there when switching back, just need confirmation I can switch to PVP safely without loss of progress)

EDIT: Its confirmed, I can switch the server to PVP and my progress wont be lost, thanks everyone!

You can't build in caves on PvE servers. Even if you could change it to PvP in order to place them, they would be destroyed when you turned it back to PvE.

Thats fine by me, but I want to know if I wont lose progress. Is what you say a good sign that I can change to PVP?

Data isn't saved in GameUserSettings.ini which is the file that tells the server whether it's PvP and PvE. I don't believe the cave protection is retroactive. So, to the best of my knowledge you shouldn't have any issues.

Just to make sure I'd copy over my ark files for the server and stand them up on a test environment to make sure it works (secondary server). But again, you shouldn't have any issues.

Good luck.

^as a secondary note, you can just backup your ark files, try it, and if it doesn't work revert them back. :P

Cave protection is retroactive. If you build too close or inside a cave on PvP server, then change it to PvE, your base will vanish, depending on the proximity to the cave.

Thanks for that, didn't know that. Regardless, it should have no effect switching from PvE to PvP as long as he/she keeps it on PvP.

Ok ok, thanks for the answers. Anyway I think I will stick on PVP anyway, its just me and my freind anyway. :P (Gonna edit thread comment aswell)

Yes, you can quite happily switch from PVE to PVP without loosing progress. We did this on our private server for exactly the same reasons as you, and there were no problems at all.

Additionally, your building stop decaying ;)

Thank you for the confirmation!

I'm not usually one to dig up old threads, but this one is what keeps coming up in my searches over and over, so I thought I'd post here where other's searching might find it as well... we just used the GUI method to switch our Nitrado server from PVE to PVP, and all structures were removed. We still had all our dinos... some still floating in midair (non-fliers mind you, so imaging a flock of parasaurs) where they had been perched on the structures that used to be there. But all bases were removed.

So unless we missed something, this is no longer a lossless process.
