No Global Chat

Why not have the game so there is no global chat .. make it so you can only chat to the grid squard you are in. Would make for more travel ... adventureing ... and danger!

Theres a server option for that already. It's also pretty annoying, in my personal opinion, but we've set it to global chat on our server. I can' however, see the upsides to setting it to local "Audible" chat. Makes it harder for people to talk trash if they know the whole server isn't their forced audience.

Cutting down or eliminating juvenile trash talking is exactly the reason there should be no global chat, or at very least, the option to close the chat box. People acting like children is what causes toxicity in a community - and it all starts with talking trash.

Realistically you'd need a radio or pager for global chat. But I think especially on a PvE server it opens much more ability to make some trades and inter tribe actions (as long there is no tribe alliance).

The Server Admin has to look, that in the "Gameusersettings.ini" the option is

"ProximityChat=False"

then your global chat will work without Probs.

Primitive Servers should not have global chat. Make it PRIMITIVE, even the chat. Just leave tribal chat or just B/ingame voice.

Global chat is the most annoying ever, totally ruins any game immersion with kiddo trash talking. Glad this game doesn't have it by default

Call me an old fart but I used to play Ultima Online and only having local / guild chat prevented so much drama. Pvp would just be pvp, you would get mad and get over it. No whining for hours about who lost what etc. (Tamed mounts could be killed, player housing could get raid, player could get looted... all that good stuff in a 2d environment with horrible perspective :)

I realize you can hide the chat in game, but considering this is a tool people use to get infos on people etc. in the context of the game, ignoring it would only be a disavantage to you.

To be fair it should just not exist imo.

If there is one thing that currently/could ruin people's gameplay, it's global chat.

Global chat ruins PvP hands down.Noobs announce to the world thier plight as a mid level player attacks them for any reason then a "hero" appears due to what was heard and hunts down the attacker.

Everyone is so afraid of losing the gear and dinos that they develop a sense of kindness to avoid potential pvp moments. Then they stack up on dinos and get bored so become "Heros" and wipe out anyone trying to play on a PvP server normally.

I can't stand it, I really really hate. I just can't understand the fascination with it in modern games, especially survival games that emulate "reality".

If they got rid of global and introduced a working radio that if you had one you could broadcast and receive globally and if you didn't you couldn't that would be ok but it really detracts from the game in pretty much all aspects.

We need it in PVE the entire server is almost an extended tribe. But I have a good server with decent people. :).
If you don't like it go turn it off, not hard to do. Don't remove choice from others.

Official primitive should experiment with turning it off.
Level 77 official primitive player here.

Having it off means you need to approach people who pass by if you wish to interact with them, it will make the pvp a bit more natural.

Global chat is good if you have the right chat tool like putting players on /ignore list. It would cut down on the trash talk and on a sever with only 70 people max you going to be a lonely player if you, sorry to said this, don't learn to shut the ♥♥♥♥ up.

global channeled radio already exists... just got to set the channel to what everyone else has it set for, we use it on our server routinely. it however replaces your tribe chat for text and local voice gets replaced with radio voice currently, which is a bug they cant seem to squash. you can also simply hide the chatbox at will if the server doesnt have it disabled already, a lot of people seem to forget this. no one is a forced audience, they are just too stupid to look at the options menu.

The current radio is redundant because of global chat and clearly you are completely missing the point with the rest of your comments.
