Multiplayer Online or Solo ?

New player here just bought this game should i play online or just solo in my own world ...

Online is fun, and there are different options for everybody, PvE, PvP and Hardcore ( if you are new do not do hardcore )

Solo is basically PvE, but it makes the game alot harder, since you are alone.

Join unofficial server as they run better imo. here is a really good new server hope this helps

With the way Solo works right now (basically hosting your own server), you're likely to have better performance issues playing Multiplayer.

i started solo, was fun for many hours, also its good to learn the basics... but after a while it got boring and i went to a pvp server. there are many jackasses but also friendly players who will help you out. but without a tribe its difficult to maintain a base which doesnt get destroyed. so your livin more the life of a ninjawanderer with hidden chests all over the island.. lol

My suggestion is playing on a private server with friends. I've had tons of fun that way, and to be honest: From what I hear, people are being total jerks on the official servers.

Private (unofficial) servers are really the best way to go. You only get the jerks you invite. Admins can be helpful in recovering from alpha bugs (bodies falling beneath the world), and game stats can be changed to better balance the players (on my world, we've reduced taming time slightly [as we all have IRL jobs and family], increased harvesting resources earned [because stripping whole islands to build a few walls is nonsense], decreased difficulty on low level players, and increased it on high level players. These features and tweaks aren't available on "official" servers.

The game is BEST when played with friends. The game is WORST when trolled by jerks. You spend HOURS taming good dinosaurs, harvesting resources, and building single walls. It takes SECONDS to lose it all to a griefer.

Playing solo... it can be enjoyable, but... there are things in the game that I feel are just meant to be tackled with a team.

Online is pretty brutal if you're into that kind of thing. Online is kind of designed so that if you stop playing for any reason, you're probably dead. Your body always stays in-game, even when you log off. Anyone can steal from your body, kill you and even spend unspent stat/engram points. If that's what you're into, there you go. Solo is my favorite mode. The game pauses when you log out and no griefers/tryhards farming you as soon as you go offline. And best part is you get the whole island to yourself.

will i lose everything if i start in Solo and switch over to Online gameplay ?

Don't think you can. There's a feature that allows you to upload characters to servers that support the feature, by activating pedestals in one of the 3 large towers on the island. But I don't think official servers allow the upload feature.

You cant transfer from Solo to Online. Luckily. Would be totally fawked if that was possible. You can save online chars and transfer from official server to official server. Not from Unofficial. and again,. Luckily. Your gear and inventory is not transfered. ( Unless they changed something )
