Is High Gamma Cheating?

Like the title says; do you support the ability to use a console command to raise your gamma level to the point where you can see perfectly at night, without the use of a light source (torch, campfire, standing torch, electric lamp, flashlight, headlamp)? If you do support it, do you see all these light sources as a waste of time and effort (ie, building electric lights around your base)?

Yes, I agree there should be an offhand light source option, and standing torches are woefully inadequate, but this isn't about that. This is about the current use of the gamma console command altering the gameplay.

I personally think it's blatant cheating, especially because a person using it at night can see and attack (and gather materials) in perfect darkness, which provides a very significant advantage over someone that isn't using it. And no, just because "everyone can use it" doesn't make it alright. Everyone could dupe items for a while, couldn't they? Did that make it alright?

There should be 0 alteration to gamma, inside or outside of game. I was seen in pitch black without any light by a group and constantly harassed no matter how well I hid in the shadows of the pitch black night, they saw me as clear as day without any light source.

First thing I do when I join is gamma 3
I don't believe it's cheating as I can easily adjust gamma on my monitor.
Everybody has different screens with different initial setups

In competitive PvP altering Gamma is cheating. However, not all monitors are equal, so some do need a minor adjustment. For example my monitor is totally black at night unless I use a gamma of 2.5, and yes it has been calibrated.

In PvE there is no competition so I have no issue with it. If a player chooses to remove the immersion of night time for himself then thats his choice.

Cheating in PvP, sure. It is.
Fine with PvE. No one is looking for you in the dark nor are you looking for someone else.

If everyone has the ability to turn their gamma up.. there isn't much you can do about it other than do it yourself to make sure you don't get plowed at night.

I wish official servers didn't allow gamma changing. Even PvE. It destroys the entire need for building lighting systems since everyone has night vision. It also makes dark nights not even challenging aka destroys PvE difficulty.

All official servers should disable the ability to change gamma and restore it to default.

I wouldnt consider it cheating since server admins have ability to turn this on or off. although i use gamma 3 and gamma 4, I like it more when its turned off as its more challenging and realistic. running around at night with a torch attracts all sorts of deadly dinos to you and make night alot more scary and difficult. but since everyone else on my server uses I would only be hurting myself if i didnt use it.

Everybody has different monitors with different gamma levels and different features. Saying it's cheating is like saying running a titan x is cheating if everybody else in the server has a 660

Even if the server has gamma off, you can change your gamma with your monitor or your video card. I have seen a few games counter this, ARK doesn't quite have it yet.
