put the animal on passive while you are near it. Set the animal to neutral after you have done your duties.

I think you need to turn off the auto collect on the Dino.

This has been in the game for some time now, all Carivores do this.
as soon as you press U they eat the dead corpse though I havent tried this on Passive? I always keep mine on Neutral.

I never put mine on passive, just "knock out" the dino far away from where I have them parked (usually on "attack my target" mode). After it's knocked out, I drop the appropriate food in it's inventory, and go fetch them to be used as bodyguards. I believe the problem here is the "hitting" which is triggering pet combat. Don't hit the unconscious beast, use narcotics/narcoberries to keep it in a torpor state.

Put them to follow. Follow pet will not eat stuff.

Disable Following on your dinos, when you get them there, before doing anything else.

I use my Carnos and Raptors as guards by bringing them up and 'parking' them while I tame; if something comes up that wants to bite the critter I'm taming, I attack it and get its attention and back into the carnos/raptors...they usually tear whatever it is to pieces, if I haven't already killed it.
