That is how you calculate anything, a pike will be pike_base_damge*melee_damage=x.
A dino would be dino_base_damage*melee_damage=x
the exception to this ranged weapons which is base_damage*item_qaulity_modifier
people find the base damage values by poking around in the dev kit.
Yes. Though armor then comes into the equation.
Some of the damage models are also wonky, for instance when attacking structures with dinos it seems to only calculate base damage, increasing melee% does not help to destroy structures quicker, but on your own character it does seem to work, so our calculations aren't always perfect examples when in game. There is a lot of stuff happening under the hood that people aren't aware of yet but over time people will figure out.
