Best weapon for knocking out birds?

I'm having a hard time knocking out high level Argens without killing them. I'm currently using a regular crossbow and it seems like I'm depending on luck that they won't die. I have a few specific questions:

- Should I use a regular bow to tame? It does less damage and torpor, but will it be easier to knock out instead of kill them?
- Is an apprentice crossbow bad to use? I just got one off an alpha but I'm not sure if it offers higher torpor or if it just has increased damage.
- Compound bow? If I don't use full draw, is it better for taming without killing the bird?
- SLINGSHOT?? Probably not the best method lol but who knows, maybe it is?

i mostly use a scorp to tranq everything one with high health and dmg the more damage they have the more torpor it gets in 10 sec

If you don't want it to die I've found the higher level ones health does not scale as high as their topor so it is much easier to accidently kill a high level before it knocks out, even with the weakest of bows. If you don't want to risk it tame a turtle, put all it's points into health and have it take the beating while you slingshot the bird.

I think you want to *try* and avoid the head. But using a crossbow will do it faster, but if they survive the first shot, a second shot that hits the head seems likely to kill.

Try both perhaps? An opener with a crossbow, then instead of reloading you draw a regular bow?

Or just use xbow, and if they die, they die, screw em. :P

Make sure they haven't recently fought anything. Don't try to tame a damaged dino. Then a low level crap bow is your best bet. The torpor is fixed the damage scales so a journeyman bow is more likely to kill (at least that's my understanding).

And lastly aim for the head.

Ive killed so many argents using a xbow XD
but it is also the best for hitting more dangerous tames from farther away becasue its more accurate at longer ranges just aim for the body and put an arrow into them every 8-10 seconds and every couple dont fire and let it fly at you dodging it. or have someone pick you up on an argent and have them fly you in circles while the argent tries to get you

crossbow deals more damage but do more torpor you just have to wait between your shots

Crossbows have even further damage multipliers against Dino's so never use them on anything but Rexs and brontos who have high torp and HP, even two body shots from a crossbow will kill most wild argents.
Use a bow and wait for it to chase you, turn around and run right back under it and it should miss you 9 out of 10 times even with low speed stats. Just turn around and shhot it in the ass, rinse and repeat!
