How to build housing on Stilts
I was wondering how to build things on stilts in ark, I have seen people build these houses over water and i would love to do that but i cannot figure out how to do so, I have tried snapping platforms on to wooden poles but it doesn't work i've tried to go from the beach into the deep water and I can't get far i've tried a combination of the first two methods still won't work, and i've looked it up no results can someone help?

I don't know if it still works but 4 weeks ago every pillar got converted into a "foundation" (not the actual item, just the state) after a server restart. Even if it wasn't connected to anything. I made floating platforms that way.

Not very... some dilos, trikes, stegos, pteras... sometimes an occasional raptor or sarco.

I just encountered a problem it says can't place wood ceiling: requires nerby foundation support

nvm figured out what to do

You need to build a pillar nearby and all the way into the ground. Sometimes even a bit below ground until it gets foundation.

ya i know
i have one problem though
how do i get all the pillars to the same hight the sea floor isn't the same hight all the way accross

Is there a way to tell it's "foundation" state? I'm making a bridge accross a water (and then gonna make "lake town") But i want the supports to at least be 2 spaces appart. So i build wood as far out as I can and then put the stone pillars in next tile. It'd be nice if I could read when its finally snapped to ground and become "foundation" so i can delete my temporary pilar w/o the new one crumbling.

Build up, across, and then down. 4 and 6 ceiling structures in the diagram above would have snaps to the center. Repeat in all directions to extend the platform. The actual pillars required for an extension will vary depending on the height between the platform and sea bottom. All pillar sections much extend into the sea bottom or you will receive an error when extending out.

yep how else would you expect to build multi-story buildings, all my structures are on pillars.

Best way I've found to do this and to prevent destruction to 1/2 to 1/3 of your structure (doing it your way) is to build something like this

_ _ _
I 0 I (where the I is a pillar and th 0 is a gap)

Wash rince repeat, so it'll be every other one has a pillar under it, unfortunately that means you may not be able to get a large dino (bronto/Pleiso) through but it's still passable by almost anything else. Also if you are building over the ocean you are probably going to run into the artificial ceiling at some time in the near future (depending on how deep the water is).

Basically build your first pillar to the height you want then stick a ceiling on it, after that build another ceiling, then another then build another pillar FROM that last ceiling back down to the ground. 123 and 789 are pillar parts, the others are "gaps" and 456 is ceiling tiles.

So it'll start looking like
[]
[]
[]

Then it'll become
__
[]
[]
[]

Then

__ __ __
[]
[]
[]

Then

__ __ __
[] S []
[]
[]

where S is a space and [] is the pillar and __ is ceiling.

dam sorry if the "parcing" throws things off hopefully this helps

TIP: much easier to build "down" instead of "up"
snap ceilings to your structure then place the supports underneath and go to the floor.

I've been messing with it, and you can build a "temporary" support as far out as you can and then put 1 more past that and put the real support. tho i have been having problems losing the new support when i remove the temporary, so make sure its grounded.

I believe they did or will fix the "floating supports" glitch. so be careful. you don't want to lose your whole structure!
