Are Assault Rifles bad ?

I find the fabricated pistol is useful, the machined shotgun and the long neck rifle is best for dinos. The assault rifle, simple pistol and regular shotgun are pretty weak against dinos.

yup, all fabricated weapons are a bit crappy compared to the resources they need. I have assault rifle, fabricated shotgun, fabricated pistol and compound bow but i run around with an apprentice longneck, apprentice double barrel and a journeyman crossbow.

I have to disagree. You can take on Rex's with the long neck :)

They are bad. Not at all worth the resources unless you have tons and tons of resources just laying around collecting dust

I found that they are okay, but the main problem is that you need a lot of carrying capacity to hold the ammo and it uses up that ammo to fast. so yeah it's isn't very good.

I had an assault rifle once, and I have to say I was disappointed by it. The work of getting the mat for it only made it worse. I tried it out by unloading a full clip of 50 bullets into a mid-40s Rex and it did next to nothing. If you do get a gun, I would recomend one of the other guns other poster are suggesting.

it should be mentioned guns own birds. pteras and argas melt under the fire of an assault rifle. tamed or wild. its great for when someone picks you up, unload a clip into their bird and watch them ♥♥♥♥ themselves and drop you real fast. ~80 damage/bullet on stock assault rifle v arga x40 bullets/clip. it adds up fast

They're not super bad. I killed a 30-something and a 90-something trike with my assault rifle the other day (logged on to find i was a victim of the tribe-kick bug, had to feed the dinos so i took out the AR). Took me about 100 rounds to kill both of them. They get the job done, especially if you snipe the dino with a Longneck once or twice before unloading the AR, but they are pretty expensive to keep repaired/supplied. I personally prefer the Longneck, but the rest of them are ok. Rocket launchers are hideously underpowered though, very disappointed in them.
