Lets talk Brontos!

Answer:

Structures on top of the Mount will definitely affect the Weight on the Mount.

I've been waiting weeks to hear something like this. My Brontos have been sitting idle doing nothing for quite a while. I did not want to level them until I knew how to best modify their stats to be amazing mobile bases.

At first, I figured a bit of speed wouldn't hurt. Faster brontos is really nice, but that takes up so many levels to make it's speed noticeable, only increasing 2.5 points per.

But now that I see that weight WILL play into the buildable saddles, I guess I should focus only on weight, maybe a bit of health. I just wonder how much I would need. My goal is to build a mobile crafting station. It would have the smithy, furnaces, fabricator, some lampposts on the front (meaning a generator somewhere) and maybe a couple turrets.

The most weight I've ever put on a bronto was about 3000, which doesn't seem like much. Especially if I want to store crafting materials on it or smelt metal.

I feel like if weight is going to play into things, increasing the brontos base weight might have to be implemented... just seems way too low at the moment. Thoughts?

The plesio sounds very promising but the bronto is like - stupid slow even if you put fifty levels into movement speed.

That's what I am saying. It doesn't feel very worth it as is. I'd like to put more speed into the damn thing, but with the weight playing as big a part as it sounds, just doesn't seem worth it compared to creatures like the plesiosaur's speed, or even the Quetzalcoatlus which can just fly anywhere.

I plan to go mobile base wih my Brontos. I am going to divide the work.

One will have the forge and smithy, one the base proper, and two Brontos statted into body guards

They are slow, but you underestimate their movement of they have decent stamina XD I gget around just fine on my main bronto.

I will have a permanent base, but having a mobile base unit that I can use to trek to metal and refine get there, repair tools right there, is awesome

3k...Let's do some maths here. We're going to go for a fully enclosed structure for crafting, right? So, since all pieces for building weigh 4 pounds, we're gonna go with a 5x5x4 building. That's 155 base bits (25 foundations, 50 cielings, 79 walls, and a door) times 4 pounds comes out to 620 pounds, or about 2380 remaining. Two fabricators are another 8 pounds, six forges is 24 pounds, a smithy is another 4, genny 4, turrets 4 each (so say 4 turrets, for 16 pounds), the ammo for turrets (5 per stack, six stack per turret, so 150 pounds), say 10 for wiring, 50 for the saddle (ballpark) and you're left with around 2k weight still. I think we're gonna be fine. Even if you throw some rain catchers up there :)

I didnt figure they would use that weight. Just never made much sense since a single metal weighs 1 pound, yet a wall made with 50 of those metal ores plus stone weighs only 4 pounds... Though, that does make me feel much better about the stats I can allocate to things besides weight :)

I plan on using my bronto as a travelling merchant caravan type of thing to go from town to town. Weight is going to be a huge factor in this for me. Won't have much of a base though, just the basics for repairs and such. It will be a slow trek between towns but travelling merchants don't usually sprint from a to b.

still doesnt address the problem of the bronto not actually being mobile.

even at 10k weight and 3k stamina it only moves about as far as medium render distance

but unlike other dinos that move faster, you can bring all you need for a expedition.

Going to get metal? Well you can refine it right there! You can repair tools!

or a mobile taming platform.

Mobile bases would be slow, but they'd definitely have their uses

I plan to go mobile base just becuase it'd be DIFFERENT and i'm a bit bored established as I am. Time to see how living as a nomad is!

Not to mention their legs are stilts rather than legs, but that's beside the point >.>

I dont know if you've seen a bronto's walk speed but you are not going ANYWHERE dude. You going to take six in game days to walk to the base of the mountains and then deploy your carefully leveled ankylo army?

The ankylos will get there and come back with a full load before the bronto makes it a half mile from the safety of your base.

It doesn't take that long where I'm built XD i'm built on the south coast, I take a bronto to a nearby hill farthe rdown that has metal within a game day

if it has decent stamina you can get somewhere. Now, if it has pathetic stamina, it wont' go anywhere and you are quite correct! But the bronto I ride goes just fine XD

Mainly though, I like using brontos.

I had a few spinos, and I got bored. Why? Because it's too easy.

They kill too fast, they travel too fast.

Where is the adventure? where is the challenge?

So I'm purposely going with slower dinos and not taming rexes and spinos, because I like the game to have a challenge =D Only carnivores i have is a Icthy (for oil runs) and two pteras (for supply drop runs)

Other than that, Trikes and Brontos and one stego are what I use

it just doesnt walk fast enough.

the plesio can be a mobile base - the bronto is just going to be an extra base on top of your dino that is vulnerable to attack and cant actually move

Considering my towns are on land the plesio isn't really a feasible option as a travelling merchant. As I said it will be a slow trek but that doesn't bother me. There's plenty to do along the way.

and always something new to see, I'm sure! I'm with you XD I don't mind a slow walk, at least i can be a nomad

The Bronto is a mobile safe platform while "refining" it is not a mobile mining platform, you can try to get near resourses more effectivly without making a ground base wreking havoc on the metal spawns noids or dino spawn noids- which will cause a tribe war hense the warning once the bronto platform comes out those with ground "refing shacks" you better get rid of them.
There are simple going to get blown up period- get off the mountain with your crap!!!!
