Tips for taming non-kibble Gigantopithecus on Official Servers
Hey whats up. So we just ran out of kibbles (had good cave runs and eggs to make them today so that was fun) and I decided to tame a fairly reasonable level Gigantopithecus with just berries. Here are some of my tips and everything I learned so far about this tame and ofcourse my personal feedback. Again this is on official servers by official ruleset. Always!!!

-This is an endurance and both a territorial tame for you and Gigantopithecus once you start so be prepared to move and scout alot. This tame process will not hold your hand.
-A level 68 Gigantopithecus will take you roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes to tame with only Mejoberries. Around 230-250 Mejoberries.
-If you feed it anything but the initial berries its tame bar will start dropping. Also if you do not have atleast 30+ kibbles to be on the safe side it is a waste of a tame as far as Taming Efficiency goes. This is a consistent tame thats stubborn on what you start feeding it with it seems. (needs more testing)
-Once tamed on Mejoberries you will most likely be at 4-5% Taming Efficiency with +1-2 level bonus and your tame has full health.
-As the dossier states they are territorial and seem to wanter around in a rectangle area/path.
-This particular tame happened on the beach at 51/44 as it had good flat land.
-Make sure to prepare the area before taming. Scout the apes surrounding first and make sure to clear all of the dinos wandering around it and make sure the bodies disappear to harvest fully as it can still stumble and aggro on them. Crazy I know.
-Prepare the territory with preferably a flier. We have speed/fighters birds so they work well ofcourse as we all know and always be on a lookout scouting. The beach where I tamed this had palm trees and they are good to make land dinos in the vicinity get stuck on them and immobilize them so it's one thing less to worry about.
-Stegos and ofcourse Brontons have large tail hit collisions so make sure to elimitate those before the Gigantopithecus make its way to your prefered tame rectangle.
-If you feel that for any reason a passive land dino is too close grab your bird or dino and go kill them right away. Do not second guess this. Even if they are somewhat far and the thought of "man this dino is pretty close" goes through your head then go kill it.
-Priority of killing passive dinos: Phiomias -> Parasaur then more slower Stegos and Trikes and ofcourse bees and insects.
-Common sence that any close aggresive dino should die immediately so keep a look out on those with priotiry on Dilo/Raptor -> Everything else aggresive.
-As Gigantopithecus wanders this rectangle place your bird or dino in the middle of his pathing this way you have a full radius of view.
-Those familiar with Assasins Creed pick pocket missions use that when feeding. Walk up to Gigantopithecus press E and immediately go opposite way.
-Bring 2 sets of armor because one of them will be broken by the end of your tame and if it's at night time you will be cold so bring atleast 2 stacks of cooked meats.
-It's ok to get Gigantopithecus to aggro on you and lure it back to your prefered rectangle. Once that happens and you are preferably on a bird immediately fly upward untill the combat music stops. As soon as it stops press space bar to level the bird and nose dive to the ground.
-Ground clutters and View Distance are off, low on my end atleast.
-Depending on the weather, mainly rain and/or fog when it turns 18:00-22:00 hours slide Gamma up so you always keep an eye out on Gigantopithecus.

Additional Notes

-Gigantopithecus, atleast to me, feels like a Carno as far as damage output and speed.
-It can wear any piece of head armor with or without armor skins and ultimately you can put your best head piece on it for it to have the highest armor rating on a tamed animal in the game. The draw back is that armor worn breaks fast so have a few pieces handy.
-It gets hungry really fast, possibly ties to the taming bar drops since if you notice while taming the food level is usualy sitting at 70% when you feed it. Having a good supply of berry stacks is adviced on long trips.
-Melee damage does not affect toss range. Toss range, and ofcourse due to slopes and terrain exploits can net you a toss up to 4-5 walls high.
-Fall damage is 12 points. 378/400 hp on my end after each throw on flat land. Slopes and mountains will do more.
-It doesn't regen health as fast as meat eating dinos even when you force feed it berries. It goes up but not as fast. Or so it seems.

Fun notes

-You can host basketball games with it if you build hoops, kinda sorta heh.
-Depending in your personal creep/freak out level, stand right infront of it and look at its feet and slowly move your camera toward its face.

Gigantopithecus right now as far as codework still needs to be looked at. I found a level 92 wandering around and after the initial feed I could not feed it anymore and I tracked it for a good 30+ minutes. Aggro range is fixed so thats nice.

Thinking a bit more about this experience since kibbles aren't always around and at times you will have to tame without their aid I actualy take back my conclusion and I will say that this is a very nice and refreshing experience. I will say this is probably an advance form of taming due to the type of prep work and continous actual labor you have to ensure to keep the tame levels from dropping. It's not boring but more of an enduring process, especialy if you solo tame. You always have to be on our guards and always on a look out for potential threats.

Hope this helps to whoever is still trying and ofcourse your milage may vary.

thank you for your explaination

Finally someone can explain why the taming bar randomly goes down for no reason. Say for example I start with Azul berries I need to feed him Azul berries the entire time correct?

ive found that if you Aggro it too much its hunger meter drops and once low enough itll say '♥♥♥♥ you im not letting you starve me' and reset its hunger and taming status. from this putting it in a pen is a bad idea as it randomly aggros the walls thus eventually losing the taming progress

If you start with Azulberries you will have to finish it off with Azulberries. Taming bar seems to drop at an increased rate if you switch up the berries on it. Unless otherwise and more tests thats what is happening on my end. To be on the safe side keep it feeding it only 1 type of berry till further notice.

@Shaden Ro
I've aggroed it plenty on this test and tame bar did not drop. It aggroed on my bird a few times also no issues there. Taming bar will drop rapidly if it is confined by player structures without a doubt. That part of a personal space is true. You can however lure it close to yout base but make sure its territory doesn't hit your structures.

I have a questio. Does melee damage percentage effect the distance/heigth you can be thrown?

I can test that in about half an hour on a perfect kibble tame and a normal tame with different melee damage combinations. I can definately say you do take fall damage regardless of the throw.

the taming bar only drops once his hunger gets to maybe 25%. it then resets the taming and hunger bar and you have to start over. ive just seen that it aggroing makes the hunger bar drop faster. i aggro mine about 6 or 7 times but i still got mine tamed, but we both agree dont box it in.

You are correct. Since Gigantopithecus hunger drops really fast that is also a factor to increased taming bar drops. I'll have to run more tests on low levels to see. Due to this information I have modified my original post with more information.

If anybody else has anything to contribute feel free.

wall it in. 2 players. one to kite it to 3 walls you have built and another to slap the 4th wall up when the monkey is inside. you die, respawn and put a box by the wall to stand on. both of you leave the area for 5 minutes. when we came back it was standing calmly by the wall. we just stood behind it and fed it when it wanted it. done in 45 minutes. level 60. Doing it this way was easy. we'll have an army of em in a couple of days :D

Oh so it is possible to do it this way? Taming Efficiency and Affinity still valid when its boxed in also when calmed down? Getting it to base is easy on foot or a decent land dino.

Also updated main post a bit with Additional Info.

Good tips, I agree was a fun one and look forward to doing some more tames of these guys!
This is how we did it, got it back to base in our taming area...had a Pre-built cage with 3 walls 2 high open hatch ceiling. Got it in and then placed a wall trapping him and I in..climb out and feed it from the top - New Best Friend!

great !

After the first couple of berries, it's 12-15 seconds between when he can be fed again.

Thats a cool method to do it aswell. confinded and just helpless. But I also recommend doing it in the wild for the intense.

ty cyberwolf, great way to fo it , i built my little shack in the woods where it was and agro it to it and had a ladder behind, so got up on the roof and waited till he went inside the square box and slap a wall in front of him, after that is was very easy, man all the time saved ty
