Taming the Gigantopithecus - How to
Firstly, it is not "impossible" to tame them. There is a strategy to taming them.

Fill your inventory with mejoberries. You'll need them.

THE REAL WAY:
First, when you find one, don't just walk up to it. If you nudge it, you'll ♥♥♥♥ it off. Watch it closely, see how it stops, picks stuff up, or stands still a bit? The devs did this on purpose. It's called "strategy." Sorry, this one isn't just an easy walk up and tranq and stare at the monitor.

This means you need to slowly approach them when they
A.) Bend down to ♥♥♥♥
B.) Bend over to pick stuff up
C.) Just stop walking for about 2 or 3 seconds randomly

The first berry you give them takes a while. Once that's done, you can feed them about every 10 seconds or so. On the level 40 I tamed, I used around 5 berries a minute.

You need to skirt around them constantly. You have to always be moving, or you'll miss them. My advice is to drag it somewhere safe and start the taming, it'll lose it's aggro if you run far enough and run around some rocks.

Unfortunately, because most people view this as too challenging, the devs are already making this easier. Maybe that's for the better, though, because here's how I had to tame mine.

THE EASIEST WAY:
I built a 1x1 stone fence foundation, with 3 walls, and one wall missing. My buddy with no gear ran the Gigantopithecus into it, and I placed the last fence foundation, and last wall. It killed myt buddy and after it was done beating his body, it calmed down.

I was then able to find the sweet spot around all the corners of the 1x1 and keep feeding it berries without aggroing it. Note: If it's aggroed and attacking the stone walls, run away for a bit, it will calm down eventually and can't damage stone. Note 2: It takes them anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to stop attacking the wall.

It took me over 2 hours to do this and I was hitting feed almost every time it came up.

The trapping thing doesnt always work. If it aggros onto a wall when hitting the player, it will either break the structure, or if made of metal, will just hit it forever. You cant feed it while its angry, eiither.

You guys do realise to approach this thing from behind dont you? If you dont let it see you, seems to have poor vision and can only see you from the front. You should be able to approach it from the back or sides easier enough.

It doesn't matter how you approach it. You have a few steps between you and the Giganto where it will say "press e to feed."

If you keep walking forward and nudge it, it'll aggro. It doesn't matter if it's from behind or from the front. Just stop as soon as you see the "press e to feed" and run back until it stops moving again.

Took me a long time, but managed to tame it aswell. I got it stuck between two rocks with a stone fence foundation and window frame laying prone while feeding it. It managed to see me 5 times before I could do a full feed without being seen by him. Really does need a nerf though hehe, give patch!

It probably does need a nerf, but people are basically asking to be able to tame this thing for free.

Still having a hard time finding one, what kind of area do they hang out in?
Nafz Aug 18, 2015 @ 7:33pm
I found 5 different ones near cliffs in areas with high density of plants/trees. That and on/near the plains south of red obilisk

this is why i hate non violent tames.. last ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ages 2h jumping around feeding 40 lvl, granted you probablydidnt need 2h if you could just spamm feed without silly traping, what would lvl 120 take, 6h oh pressing feed every 10s? even with kibble thats 2h?

You know I hate prime meat taming with passion after doing 116 spino, and 120 trex before, its such boring dull and painful experience.. but at least you get to move around, kill stuff grab some eggs, now and then get 2m in break since sure as hell yougoing to need it doing it for 5h+, but taming itchy or this without kibble is just torture

You don't have to nudge it at all. It aggros you if you stand behind itany longer than the split second it takes to feed it... than it stays angry at you FOREVER unless u leave the area.

Taming it requires more work than a bloody spino.

Had 22 kibble (yes offical pvp:D) and took about 20 mins go get a 116 half way done, then I got a bit to close and it aggroed and a Carno aggroed while running away from it, and it took one hit from the carno everything lost :D
