Do a barrel roll!
Roughly 2-3 days into the game, you can reach 'end game' without actually crafting anything except what is required to tame a Pteranodon. It almost feels like I'm cheating and that there is no point to progress any further as I can kill any dino in the game in several hits.

Alpha's require slightly more hits, but still are not an issue. The fact it does more damage than a Rex has to be a troll.

Ark will be the revival of the old phrase "Do a barrel roll".

We setup a semi private server with all tamable flying creatures off.
Once you get flying the game is no challange, now with the damage you can do with them its even less of one.

Yeah the barrol roll does insane amounts of AOE damage.
I oneshotted 3 Sabers 3 scorps 2 Raptors and a stego. . .

Go chitin farming in caves with them :O, let me tell you it is fun maybe not for the other players who happen to be in there but you don't realize it and barrel roll anyway.

Enjoy the fun it is though :) and remember those pteranadons are glass cannons though! It might get nerfed but all it takes is one good bite from an alpha rex or some well palced bulelts to "nuetralize" that barrel roll.

Except it's not a barrel roll.. It's an aileron roll.. -.-

Amazing how Nintendo can go and screw that up for everybody.

"Do an Aileron Roll!" just doesn't have the same ring to it, though...

That would be preferable. If they actually had a detriment I would be a happy man. It ruins the fun for me personally just knowing I am capable of doing such things.

I have always said, we have two travel mounts, Icthys and Pteras. It makes sense they are the easiest tames in the game and both use Dodo kibble which is the easiest to get.

They are for getting around the island quickly. I use it to fly to an alpha fast, get off and kill it with my pike. Or I use it to hunt prime with my pick. Full movement speed allows me to get back to the fridge quickly.

The mount saw just as much use as my Argent which took far far more effort, time and work to tame.

Now the Argent is nothing more than a cargo vessel and who needs any other dino if you have a Ptera. We need some common sense balancing because this, the weightless monkey (Thankfully getting nerfed) and automoton stone gatherers (only makes sense if from an intelligent creature like the ape) makes absolutely no sense.

I will say again, WE NEED COMMON SENSE BALANCING!

I tamed a level 28 ptera, could kill Brotnos and rexes right after the tame... tried a alpha rapotor after some level, was easy,, tried alpha trex level 70 , almost died when it hit me once, I gave up on it as i hardly saw any injury on it after sever stamina refreshes :) I think befor they "balance" anything they need to adress the lag which is probably responsible for most inbalances

I like it, until my bird of utter doom was one shotted by a turret

So if you nerf the ptera, the argent will be the one and only dino again to tame.
If you nerf the stone dino, there wouldnt be any reason to tame it..
Tekamo Sep 9, 2015 @ 3:10am
na, the ptera is still a valuable mount for fast transport and scouting, and the doed? If you take away the auto stone gathering its still usefull to manually gather with it.. I actually dont use the auto gather function

Maybe but an argent saddle is 55, a ptera saddle 35
Argent level 120, need 94 prime meat and 3H30!
Ptera level 120, need 56 prime meat and 2H20!

We start a new server last week, already lot of player 70+. People use high ptera instead of high trex to get fast xp... so, a little nerf maybe, reduce the size of the AOE, raise the stamina need for a barrel roll...

Then your complaint should solely be the server latency, not mechanics. You CANNOT do this unless rubberbanding and lag break wild dino attacks. You may be able to get away with it on official servers or private servers with high latency, but you can't attack an alpha on a fast server with a ptera or with a pike and not get your rear end handed to you. They turn too fast and attack the moment you're in range. It's very difficult to kill high level rex's and spino's on foot as well, without breaking your flak in two or three encounters. Wild dinos turn faster than tamed rex's and spino's. If your server allows you to outmaneuver them, it's latency, not skill.

Alpha rexes I agree, not the case with the others. This is on single player. Only a high level alpha carno is a problem. I sit at 1290 armor, lev 60-80 alpha raptors do about 9 damage per hit, my pike hits for 457 damage (191% pike at 435% melee) which is the same damage as a 761% melee rex.

They drop relatively fast, Carnos I need a few health potions and some steak but can kill. On an official server I have relatively the same build and do just as well, better with Carnos though. As for alpha rexes, I can't get enough damage in before my armor breaks even at insane durability. So for this I use a wall/cliff exploit and time the bites for headshots.

But this comes to my quoted comment. It wasn't a complaint, merely the mention and use of the Ptera.

If they just nerf the AoE so that it's still powerful but needs more skill to hit I'm fine with it, but I hate everyone complaining about realism, when there is a ****ing dragon in the game as well as flying beacon thingies haha
