Build a pillar A..put a ceiling ontop...then you can place 2 additional ceilings in your prefered direction...then put a pillar B beneath the second ceiling placed this way... put anoter 2 ceilings in the direction you are going... place a pillar C under the last placed ceiling.. remove pillar B you placed.. this way you have 4 ceilings between each pillar and they stand further apart.. you can build quite a large hall this way without having too many pillars obstructing the room.
A Bronto should fit between them.
If I delete the middle pillars like you are suggesting, it destroys the ceiling it is supporting. How are you getting around that?
That is unless the devs make tamed dino eggs only collectable by their owner..That would eliminate the need for a roofed structure.
This is what I am looking to do..just taller...

It seems as though as long as there is a foundation below the ceiling somewhere, the ceiling tiles can be placed, can be a bit fiddly and occasionaly cause outbursts of rage but it's doable

Regardless I think horizontal construction elements would be very very usefull
Thank you all for your replies
no it needs to be snapped together SOMEWHERE.
take a look at my bridge (not complete yet), the center isn't supported by pillers at all. it has the pillers on the bottom of the ocean and the structure is snapped together on the edge of the deep water.
