We need horizontal beams or A-frames for buildings
Egg stealing is rampant so I am building a large, enclosed (with roof) dino pen. The pillars really make it difficult to get a large, enclosed, open area. It would be nice if there were large horizontal structural beams so we did not have to use pillars indoors.

If adding horizontal beams is too much, how about increasing the distance between beams by +1? That would allow all of the larger animals room enough to walk/swim through.
Masta..that would be good also..will a Bronto even fit between two pillars 4 ceiling tiles apart?
You can stretch the pillars further out so they dont stand as close together.

Build a pillar A..put a ceiling ontop...then you can place 2 additional ceilings in your prefered direction...then put a pillar B beneath the second ceiling placed this way... put anoter 2 ceilings in the direction you are going... place a pillar C under the last placed ceiling.. remove pillar B you placed.. this way you have 4 ceilings between each pillar and they stand further apart.. you can build quite a large hall this way without having too many pillars obstructing the room.

A Bronto should fit between them.

Currently a mammoth can not fit through the exixting beam structure. Brontoas are a whole different topic!
@sen you can not place 2 ceiling in a straight line its PILLAR/CEILING-CEILING-PILLAR CEILING.

If I delete the middle pillars like you are suggesting, it destroys the ceiling it is supporting. How are you getting around that?

Hmm..I may have to re-think this :(
That is unless the devs make tamed dino eggs only collectable by their owner..That would eliminate the need for a roofed structure.

I was just looking at a base that spanned a river and was built on pillars. They had a floor then 12 wall heights to a ceiling. The ceiling was 12 ceiling tiles across without any pillars supporting it (They used window walls so I was able to see inside). It is a massive open space. They arent answering in global so does anyone know how they accomplished this? They do use a Behemoth gate as part of one wall..would this make a difference?

This is what I am looking to do..just taller...

HI although not a flat ceiling as in your screen shot, my stables have a large open space.
It seems as though as long as there is a foundation below the ceiling somewhere, the ceiling tiles can be placed, can be a bit fiddly and occasionaly cause outbursts of rage but it's doable

Regardless I think horizontal construction elements would be very very usefull

Do the eggs fall through the foundations?
I made a a barn for small stuff that is 12x8 foundations and 5 walls high so I can stick stegs and rexes in it if I want and not clip through the roof. Got a 4 high bird barn on top. Troughs in center of both floors can feed everything too.
So as long as you have a foundation under it you can go out further than the 2 ceiling limit from the walls, even that high up?

As long as its aligned it should.
cool..I will have to experiment with that

Thank you all for your replies

no it needs to be snapped together SOMEWHERE.

take a look at my bridge (not complete yet), the center isn't supported by pillers at all. it has the pillers on the bottom of the ocean and the structure is snapped together on the edge of the deep water.

What is wrong with using full foundations instead of the fence foundations. With that you can put a ceiling, even over the dino gates.
