Terra nova thingies :P

Just throwing ideas out there for the devs to maybe notice ^^
The series terra nova which sadly only had a single season was about people coming from the future to the past to rebuild because their world got destroyed etc. And a lot of things in that series would be pretty nice in ark too. Like the sonic weaponry,

They also had this perimiter of sonic mines to keep predators away. they activate one and bam they hurt a little get stunned and they would move away. Something like this would be pretty epic.

They also had a bunch of vehicles which would fit nicely in ark seeing as they are already planning on adding them.

Yeah, when they do the sci-fi tier sonic weapons and solar power might be cool. Maybe have rechargeable power cells for sci fi gun ammo that you refill at an outlet or dedicated charging station like filling water containers with a tap?

Maybe the sonic guns could deal torpor damage mainly? Maybe make sci-fi guns sonic with 2 power levels, one for dealing torpor and uses less power from the power pack, and a more damaging and lethal high powered sonic pulse.

Some of the tech stuff from the series might be interesting, but I don't believe vehicles would be good for this game. A lot of the game is too heavily covered in trees and rocks for vehicles to be a valid form of transportation, they would always end up getting stuck on things.

I personally think that the dinos are all the transportation anyone would need in ARK, but more advanced weaponry and buildings would be great.

Here is my take on Ark. Ark is an expirament by Aliens, yes I know this is a popular theory, but hear me out here.


Aliens discovered earth after 2 major incidents occured. The first being another large meteor impact that we tried to stop but only succeeded in causing it to break into several large chuncks that hit all the continents instead of just crashing into the ocean which was its original target. Then a huge solar flare occured which unlike typical flares was more like the entire outer layer of the sun pealing off into space hitting all planets/stations in the system.
Now a little detail on earth and the aliens.

Earth is no longer habitable by Oxygen based lifeforms (alteast on land, the now severly reduced oceans do still contain some signs that earth is trying to recover). Humanity had since gone to the stars so this all happened roughly 200 years into our future. So there were colonies on the moon, mars (partially terraformed) and Venus (terraform started but was severly damaged by the solar wave). Had several orbital stations and stations on Several of the other planets moons (mining facilities) and a research/farsight station on Pluto. All now abandoned due to the solar peal off.

The Aliens, the Aliens are a conglomerate of races whom are as follows:

Saurians: Have Trike and so Raptor ancestry (hence interest in the fossile remenants found in our defunct museums)
Reptilians: Decendent from our later Crocodilians/Alegators, may also be vaguely related to the ingame dinos of similair types (they are interested in possibly terraforming the planet for their use as the sun is now much hotter and they think they can turn Uranus into another sun)
Felinoids, just generally curious and may have a common ancestor in either our Modern Tiger or the Sabertooth.
Wolfen, Distant relatives to the Wargs (aka Direwolves).

They discover this planet after the fall of the dinos (first Asteriod wave) was ruled by a simian decent race calling themselved Homosapiens or Humans. The find video archives which, the stuff that actually found was our movies. They decided although these video archives where far fetched may have been close to truth since they had the technology in there time (1000 years after our disasters occured). So they try to recreate humanity via cell samples that they managed to find and where able to make viable for usage in recreating a being.

They then find that this Red Planet (humans named Mars) was partially terraformed for an Oxygen based life form, so they created the Ark there. Creating the Obelisks as a way to maintain the environment incase there was some kind of additional disaster and as a monitoring and potentially a transportation device of sorts. Then they took samples that they retrived from the dino skeletons we had preserved and recreated those and placed them in this environment. Found that the flourished and where slightly different from the textual reference the humans had developed.

The aliens then created their first human samples (some came out mishapen and they had no idea why, others seem to be the perfect athletic specimens, while other yet where "human norm"). They then bioengineer artifact devices and implanted them in their specimens as tags and information transfer devices. These devices where then connected into the brain so that they could be fed informations (engrams) so they survivors could advance, adapt and develop, they could also use them to keep track of the specimens and their accomplishments.

There overall goal, to see if humans may still have survived to their current calander date and to see if they could adapt to a new situation (these alien species). If successfull they would go off in search of whether or not humanity still existed.

Now not related to the history but why I included multiple races, the aliens intended to create "less evolved" forms of themselves and later introduce them to the survivors.

These would have additional traits similar to what they already had in their current forms. I have additional thoughts on this, but I'd really like to see more then just humans be an option for players. I even have ideas for Insectoids or Spider related (would be kinda creapy though).

Vehicles are being added, so you can just choose to not use them.

what ark is the point of ark and all that has no impact on this topic. we're talking about things and tech from terra nova being put into ark. (where it does fit)

So i take a break from playing ark, trust me i need a break...

which leads to me doing my second fav thing, watching movies and stuff, and because of ark i decided too take a chance on watching something called Terra-Nova, after reading description of it containing dinos...

Im playing terra-nova LMAO

even the markings on the rocks in this series, is present in the A symbol on arks logo....

and too my surprise a search on these boards leads me to a terra-nova thread already made, we even got a mystery speciemen implant and alien type structures.

so are we getting terra-nova fences please ?

Yeah my first thought as far as TV shows and ARK was actually Doctor Who: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. There are so many directions that entertainment media have presented dinos, it's a wonder there are any new angles left.

Earth 2. Firefly. Dark Angel. Doll House. Alphas. So many great shows that never made it past season 2. Still waiting on Z Nation to see if it goes the distance or not. I almost don't bother to watch new shows until they are past season 3 or already cancelled, anymore. Just can't take another broken heart.

for real? ive always felt there was a severe lack of dinosaur-themed media. jurassic park IV: the rancid dump- it isnt enough. what are some other modern dinosaur movies? cause ive never heard of them

Terra nova characters were super cliché, and I really didn't like how dinos only got stunned by gunfire. A 50. cal would turn a dino into a smouldering meat heap. It's a shame because the setting was really interesting.
