Best dino's as pure mules?
- I tried mammoths, too big, they get stuck everywhere
- Stego's, too slow
- Trikes, they can have a decent weight amount, can defend themselves a bit but can still get stuck between tiny palm trees
- Argentavis, not sure about their weight capacitiy, also it can be annoying to load/unload them at times.

Update:
Argentavis:
Is the best mule for air-transport. It's safe and they almost never get stuck. They can get a decent hp pool and over 1k carry weight.

Rex:
You can disable the screenshake in the options menu, they won't get stuck on trees and can defend themselves while also having the 2nd best base carry-weight in the game. They are also very fast.
Sadly they indeed do get stuck on stones and their turning-radius is pretty bad and they aren't exactly the most easy to tame.

I personally did go for both Argentavis and Rexes. Because I have to travel far for metal, I rather go by air.

wait for the Quetzwhatever giant flyer.. As long as all dinos get stuck somewhere..
Sarcos can be nice since they can swim pretty fast and have good weight

I've found Carno's to be a good middleground Dino.

They're good at combat. They can carry a reasonable amount (Often about 300-400 unupgraded). They're big but narrow enough to not get stuck on many obstacles. They're fast and tough.

The only problem with many tamed Dino's I see in this game however is how ANNOYING it is when you've got 2 or 3 Spino's, or other large Dinosaurs following you and it makes such a hell of a noise and screen-shaking hellstorm.

hmm.. what about a bronto? its slow, but afaik big enough to stomp trees in his way, and has VERY big weight.

bout the argentavis.. it has a weight of 300-400, so its okay for me.

Depends on where you use it for, imo. I have a pure pack mule phiomia that carries goods in our tribe compound. It never goes outside, but since it can fit in one wall width spaces and two height, we designed our building for the phiomia to get around and recreive goods from gatherers, and bring them to our elevated storage area.

For mules that go outside the building, I'll have to give my vote to a carno. It has a good mix of speed, power, reasonable hitbox size, and carry weight.

They don't get stuck in trees, but they often get stuck in mid-air, hovering. So you can't load/unload them properly or at all. Their weight and speed are good.

We always use argentavis in our tribe. A high level argent can have easily ~1100 weight while having >5k health. But mostly for farming metal/stone or bringing stuff from one base to another. In the forests I wouldn't take them on follow, they often get stuck in the trees.

Also while riding an ankylo and having argentavis on follow it requires a bit of practice with the whistles so you don't have the argent always blocking your movement.

And if you want to get a lot of stuff from a to b flying is a lot easier than having to walk.
That is true.

Argents are one of the best mules currently, a high end (100+ at taming) can pretty easily reach 1k carry capacity and still have reasonable health and damage. Biggest problem with the freightbird is if you DC it can be hell to track down before something bazaar murders it, like a ant.

Carno's are my general high end go-to mount: little ungainly around rocks (which they constantly get stuck on when on follow) but for balance they are nice and because of how they are built they handle the buggy bugs pretty well. (And high end mate boosted ones can handle most alphas) Just wear reasonable armor, its pretty common to have to jump off a carno cause its stuck in a tiny tree or when traveling with other carnos, stuck in another carno.

On ground I use trikes, at high level you can get their weight up to a good 1200 (max leveld tho), put on saddles, make a train with a carno at the front and maybe at the back for protection. They don't need a huge pen like bronto's and get stuck way less than a mammoth.

To gather iron I just make a train of argents to gather at the volcano or Orange pillar. Just make sure you have a large safe place or it'll get messy.

Argent or nothing until the big bird comes out.

I'm currently using a Carno + high lvl parasaur combo. Parasaur carries nearly everything, I ride the carno and defend it while it follows.

my wife and I like using rexes as mules. We watch for ones that roll weight with their original levels and them focus them on that role.

personally i use phomia's for ground easy to tame decent speed to outrun attackers. argents (until new birds come out) provide a great air mule if you spec them for it have a few mule argents who have 700+ carry weight.

We're working on getting back our turtle train. Used to have 8 turtles, maxed weight training, total 5600 carry weight. Worked well with out anky for mining, since they have similar speed/path width. Had to restart it cause we got raided and they all got killed. :( Looking forward to buildable platforms though, cause then we'll be able to have a forge on the front one (smokestack/refining metal on the fly) and a mortar on the next (for reducing weight with insta sparkpowder/paste as you farm), also looking at the possibility of putting walls down the sides so it looks like an actual train. :)

We're looking at throwing doedi's into the mix, since they have almost no collision with each other/turtles, and can passively farm some stone while following. We just got a lvl 108 to get 16 weight per point, so could end up with a much tighter train then the turtles, without the need to bring body guards.

Re: carnos. My experience if you're harvesting stone/metal/flint on an anky is that it iwll pin you with its face. It follows way too close and won't let you move. If it's a rearguard for your other mules, don't have that problem, so can still be useful.

Re: argents. I've found it best to take a train of pack mules, then have a tribemate shuttle with a high lvl prime tamed argent, max carry weight (used to have a Beast of Birden (pun) like this before the raid, 1100 weight). Ofc, with my current anky I'm pulling 60+ metal from low quality nodes, so right now I need 2 tribemates shuttling, and they can't keep up with avg 800 weight birds between the 2.

Forgot to mention, turtles/doedi are smaller per weight than all other suggestions except for phio. as in, regular dino gate fits them nicely, and can fit 3 turtles or more in same space a sarco or trike can fit. prolly 4-5 in place of stego.
