passive experience gain?

Recently, I have spent a fair amount of time at my main base (official pve server) collecting eggs, moving dinos around and watching chat for trade deals. Most of the time, I get experience ticks of 0.1 exp a few times per minute without doing any crafting or killing - what I think of as passive experience gain for just surviving. Other times, there is no passive experience gain.

Can anybody explain the rationale/mechanic at work here?

As far as I am aware, you always get the passive 0.1 exp gain.

i read somewhere that you get a part of your dino's passive xp if your riding it. never tried it myself though but it doesnt sound wrong.

Any ideas of what would make passive experience gain stop?

Also, is the dino exp gain still in the game - I thought I read it was a thing, but I seem to get the same exp whether I'm on a dinosaur or not (passive).

I don't think you get any of your dino's "passive" exp gains, however, if a tribemate is crafting and you are riding a dino, the dino will get your half of that exp gain.

This may be what you are thinking about.
