Alpha Raptor destroyed my game.
Alright, I have a beef. I've been playing this game like crazy since I bought it, but those Alpha creatures are too darn stinking powerful. Seriously. I think it's fine to put something like that in the central part of the island, where you aren't going to run into them accidently, but making them randomly appear on the outskirts, the lower level area beaches... just not OK. I had a Carno, 2 raptors, a trike, a carbonemys, 2 Parasaurs, a sarco, and several Dilphosaurs... This Alpha Raptor appears right outside my base that I've been woring on for a week and destroys the whole thing plus my entire heard of animals, all of which were attacking it. Ridiculous. I'm starting all over from scratch and needing to find a new area, all because of a random spawn of an Alpha? NOT OK, DEVS. I know it's an Alpha, and tweeks are being made. This is one that needs to be fixed, ASAP. I just don't even want to play this anymore, knowing that any hard work I put into it could be destroyed in less than a minute if the wrong thing randomly appears.

I did not go looking for a fight with this thing, it came to me randomly in a starting area. Just... no words.

Same thing happened to me. I lost 3 trikes, a bronto, 2 raptors, a stego, and 5 dilphs and a dozen dodos. MY DODOS DAMMIT! I shot that alpha raptor 15 times with my pistol and he killed me too. Then he hung out at my base until all my stuff decayed.

This was single player server by the way with all default settings. I was pissed at first... but I look back at it and laugh... except for the dodos. They were my babies.

Just level a bit more and get some better dinos. I know there are the Carno fans but they really don't stand a chance, neither do raptors. At lv 50 I was able to punch a raptor to death wearing chitin.
Last night I found a spino that I noticed was not taking any damage whatsoever. Got closer and saw that it was lv125, so I tamed that beast. Once tamed it was at lv185. Got a couple of levels by doing some initial kills and got its health to 14k really fast. That was when a alpha raptor showed up.... it destroyed the alpha raptor.

a wild lvl 125 ?

No yeah the answer to random BS spawning algorithms is to spend about 6+ hours taming and leveling a spinosaurus, JUST to take down ONE raptor.

yeah, I honestly didn't think it was possible but there it was. I am more of a rex fan than a spino but at that level who cares.

must be a modified server. thought dino max level was 120.

I could do that without armour at level 1

Not on Offical you didnt.

OP, Alphas are fine, way too easy infact. When they was introduced i was not ready for them, i got splatted by one, learnt my lesson and now they are trivial at best. Get decent dino's and avoid inland if you are really at risk.

Here's how I interpret that sentence: "Spend all your waking hours babysitting an unconsious dino-- I mean TAME a high level dino and deprive yourself of mid to late-game resources until you somehow obtained enough of said resources that YOU CAN'T ACCESS BECAUSE IF YOU DO YOU WILL DIE and go defeat the thing preventing you from obtaining the previously mentioned resources.

This game isn't for everyone.

You need 2 things, the first being the ability to brush off losses to the challenges the game presents when you fail those challenges. The second is the ability to try anything to survive, be defensive, this is a survival game. Don't build in the prettiest spot, build in the most defensive spot.

Interpret how you like, its a survival game. You wouldnt play any other game and expect to be access every area, for instance high level dungeons on MMO's at starting level. There's no physical restrictions but the fact of the matter is there are dino's in and around the mountains that can travel that WILL kill you if you are not ready.

Lets also take into consideration that the costal reigons make up the majority of the map and so your reall restricions are not as big as your making out. That is if you consider them restrictions at all, more acurate a term would be the riskier areas. You can still travel there, you will more ofthen than not be fine, but there has to be some risk or its not a survival game.

I cant tell you how many times while farming while low level i was jumped by max rex's, carno's, saber packs etc. Its what makes the game and in reality those of us who farm the Alphas for the prime can spend HOURS trying to find them. The fact people get salty they died to one because they are unprepared is just a waste of the bandwidth on the forums.

As they stand, to an established player with reasonable (by no way do i mean max) Dino;s can cope with any Alpha. The only real risk is to new players who are able to avoid the pretty rare and infrequent spawning alphas.

I for one, want more Alphas, more Dangerous ones, maybe even packs of them.

The biggest risk most people face is from drowning while alt tabbed or similar as you can avoid most treats by ways of defending against or taking a diversion when traveling.

You sound pretty bitter so I'm going to go out on a limb and say you also met an unfortunate demise via an alpha. Alphas are fine, if you build wisely you do not need stone or metal buildings to defend against one. Many of the people that die constantly on my server are the ones who do not build an adequate base or do foolish things such as building close to a mountain. Even a decent carno will make short work of an alpha raptor.
Firestorm672 Sep 3, 2015 @ 4:46pm
alot of people assume that u have to fight a alpha head on with dinos, while yes it is the most efficent, it isnt the only route, i have been able to kill many raptors, carnos and rex alphas with a crossbow and ALOT of arrows, but i saw them before hand and had a plan to take them out. alot of people also say that it takes a max level dino, 100+ to kill an alpha anything, i literally tamed a lvl 44 rex, with kibble and it reached level 64 and since it has reached level 80, and is able to take down alpha raptors with easy, havent tried a carno yet, but idk. still if those things get u off gaurd they can destroy everything, the only thing u can do is scan out the area, make everything out of stone at least and keep all ur herbivors far away fom the wall or in the center so they cant get agro, if u dont have high level dinos, kill them with the whole "get trapped on terrain" route, it works and can save u alot of frustration, is it tedious, yes but it will save ur life, and ur dinos
Choppstick Sep 3, 2015 @ 4:47pm
Heres a Pro tip. Crouch in front of it and pike. Word is there bugged and cant hit you. = Dead Alpha and loads of free xp. But now your game wil be a bit more boring...
Oblong6 Sep 3, 2015 @ 4:48pm
Yes there's many ways to kill the Alphas and Firestom672 if you stick a decent saddle on that rex, you wont struggle with most Alpha Rex's... a 120 could be a challenge but i would give it a go myself XD
kenundrum Sep 3, 2015 @ 8:25pm
I understand the OP. Today, I had 3 Trikes, and 3 Carbonemys, and a single Alpha Raptor runs up and kills everything very fast. There is a problem here, way too overpowered. I really do not want to play any more. All that time wasted on this glitch NPC, It is a game breaker.
