How to play with a Friend?
Hi folks

I've been wanting to play ARK with a friend, however we seem to be running into a problem where I cannot connect to my friend and he cannot connect to me. We are able to play together in other online games, so the issue seems to be with ARK.

If I host a non-dedicated multiplayer session, via Local / Host on the main menu - is that appropriate?

If I set the match to private, can only friends join - or no-one?

There doesnt seem to be an option to password the server so it concerns me. Only the admin password, for admin controls. Thing is, I dont want other random people joining.

We've also tried connecting with Hamachi running. No luck.

My game simply doesnt show in the server list for him, or if he tries connecting through Steam nothing happens.

Any advice?

Hosting a non-dedicated server on private is the way to go, your friend can join via the friends list or you can invite them. But only when you´ve fully loaded into the game. I play with a friend this way, and we have no problems.

Maybe you need to forward some Ports in your Router.

TCP/UDP: 27015
TCP/UDP: 7777

Your Friend should find the Game via Browser or you can invite him to your game.
(Shift+Tab --> Friends --> rightklick the User and invite to game)

How is the port forwarding done?

I can access the router but Im not sure about where or what to do exactly.

The game doesnt show up for him in the browser and if I invite him, nothing happens.

You've listed the ports, but where are they input exactly?

On my modem its asking for the External Port Start, External Port End, Internal Port Start and Internal Port End. The TCP/UDP setting I can set, but Im not sure where to put the numbers.
