What is the point of this game?

Err, so I downloaded this and played it for a couple hours on a permadeath server since the ping was great. Before this I watched a little bit of gameplay on twitch. On twitch it looked like nothing was ever happening. I figured this was mostly bad luck, slow time of day, whatever.

Anyway, after I played it a while I realized there really doesn't seem to be anything to do. I ran around and picked a zillion berries and made tools and chopped stuff. It was amusing for a while but then I started to get the feeling this is all you do... ever.

What exactly do you do in the end game? PVP or something? There has got to be more to this game than farming food and randomly taking dumps while sprinting across the land (hilarious as that is).

in my opinion i think the game is about gathering supplies and making a base of some sort at a spot at looks good and make a dino army and take over the island

tame dinos, explore caves, gather artifacts and summon raid boss, hunt supply drops for rare blueprints, build bases. pvp servers for pvp, pve servers for non pvp.if yer a troll, suck a fart.

It's in early production, there's no end game since they're still making the game lol. Seriously is this a thought people are having?

Depends on what you enjoy for me the point of the game initially was to tame dinosaurs and make the game "safe" then build a base, upgrade equipment, then look for rarer or better dinos then improve my base/look for a "best" place to put a base. Ark is a lot like mine craft sometimes at least if you play pve the game is really limited by your imagination.

There isnt one yet the game is still in developement it's not due out till mid 2016, developers are still adding content. This is an Early Release title. So things are a WIP as people have placed on most mods that are available.

1.8 hours lol you have done nothing , you can build a fortress tame almost anything as a pet like a argentavis that lets you fly and find other cool things to tame , there are some 20 odd caves to explore some very dangerious some onthe ocean floor, there are artifacts in the caves to spawn end game bosses too although there is only one boss in game as of now...there are mini bosses all over too, come back when you have played the game...

It is a survival game. Survive.

Clearly this isn't your genre of game.

I see, yeah I knew it was some sort of early acess project but I just wasn't sure if there was little end game content or if this is the way is was supposed to be.

It is a survival sandbox, not a FPS or RPG. With the decent variety of games you've played, I have a hard time believing you have never played a game in this genre. Minecraft at least?

No, I asked because I'm not interested in sinking a bunch of time (1 free weekend isn't a big enough window anyway) into a game that I don't own just to learn what it's about.

My post wasn't a dig at the game but a couple of you toxic fanboys decided to interpret as such so you could try to grief a complete stranger.

How am I being toxic? I'm genuinly curious. I just find it odd that someone who owns and has played such a variety of games hasn't even played something similar to Minecraft before.

I didn't know what to expect. Like I said I watched some of it on twitch precisely to get an idea of what the game was about but all anyone ever seemed to do was stare at a campfire inside their house or wander around on a dinosaur.

I've actually never played a survival game that I can recall and have never played Minecraft.

I think the point of the game is to get good so you can win the Survival of the Fittest game mode, however PVP and PVE are really boring game modes so you might as well play Survival of the Fittest and learn how to play the game from there, however it seems pretty lame - just tame more dinasours and team the most and you win but I guess this is supposed to be the "fun" mode w/ a point you are looking for :D
