Unless you build a lot of them and put them everywhere above everything else they are useless...
We can survive a night inside a building with a fire, but we want to be able to run around doing things without having to stand ON the fire to be comfortable.
I've designed the building so there is a single level between the habitation area and the crafting area on top. This area is only 1 wall tall and is planned to house our electricity system and the air conditioners.
We don't care if we have to place them 2 apart and build 50 of them if need be. I just need to be certain of their coverage area before I start placing them.
I was hoping a floor of them all spaced 1-2 foundations apart would make it nice and cozy.
We built it below the rooms of our castle and used about 12 air conditioners below our rooms:

Yeah, I built one for my low level tribemate when I brought her to my mountain base. I expected something siginficant for it's material cost. It's bloody ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible. I think a campfire is actually better. Thing is, this is *only* a useful item for new players, once you have leveled fortitude and gotten some decent armor, the mountain cold is no issue for you. Yet only high level players can make it.
I placed 24 units, one on each foundation (actually a ceiling as it's between two floors).
This does just about manage to make the place confortable, but only just. If you stand equidistant between four units then you still feel the cold. But at least we are not freezing.
We are probably going to need another twelve or so units to make it comfortable all over.
Hopefully we will be ready for the snow
I kind of like the really cold nights on the slopes. The chance of freezing to death in a matter of minutes is challenging, but I do wish the air cons were a lot more effective for their cost.
