Beelzebufo are Amazing!

So I was out in the swamp biome, trying to find some Beelzebufo, when I spotted two, a male and a female, both 40+ and mate boosted. Suddenly, a lvl 4 Spino comes out of nowhere and starts attacking them. The frogs gang up on the Spino.... and kill it. They. Kill. It. One of the largest carnivores ever to walk the Earth, killed by two frogs.

I was now scared of thse things, but decided to tame one anyways. So I lured the female away, and tried to knock it out. it took about 20 tranqs, shot from a primitive crossow. And the frog almost knocked me out - twice! I finally got it down, and it was suprisingly quick to tame! Sure, the topor went down pretty fast, but I brought plenty of Narcotics so it was ok.

After taming it, I brought it back to my base to saddle it up and try it out. Here's what I learned: (Keep in mind thse are all from a lvl 40+ beelzebufo)

They're pretty fast, almost carno speed.

They can jump MASSIVELY high, high enough to clear a 4-wall high wall with ease.

Their melee attack is.... actually pretty bad. But, it's effective on smaller creatures, like Dilos, because it can attack from a distance while pushing them back.

They have a respectable amount of stamina that recharges almost instantly.

They're quite fast in the water, enough to outrun a Megapiranha.

Their tongue attack actually inflicts torpor damage.

And of coure, they're fantastic for cementing paste. Their secondary attack, a tongue whip, can easily clear a horde of meganeura/titanomyrma in a few swings, and each corpse harvested using the bufo's tongue has a chance off giving you cementing paste. After a few minutes of killing bugs at the swamp, I had about 50+ cementing paste.

So to recap: They have good stamina, huge jumps, are fast swimmers, are fast runners, have decent health and melee attacks, are an easy and cheap way to knock out lower-level beasts, and are a fantastic early-to-mid game cementing paste source. And their saddles are fairly cheap, and unlock quite early - around lvl 15-20, i think.


TL;DR: Beelzebufo are freaking awesome!

Hmmmm... I shall be making a swamp outpost tonight as soon as I am finished with work. Any region of the swampland in particular seem suited to a 6x8 base on pillars?

Sounds like i need to make a swamp outpost as well since my base is now surrounded by dire wolves (tamed 5 of them so far).

While I agree the frogs are quite spiffy, killing a level 4 spino really isn't all that impressive.

True. It's just kinda hilarious and awesome that some frogs were able to kill a Spinosaurus, regardless of level.
