Building a stand to tame carno/ raptor
Someone mentioned that building a stand could be good to tame a carno.

"build a stand 4 pillers high and 2 celings out works every time with raptors too"

I'm lvl 21 and not very experienced yet, i wonder about the details of this stand. Building 4 pillars high i understand and putting the ceillings on top as the platform i understand also, but how getting up there ?

Can i build ladders to get up this height when a dino is after me ?
And will it attack the stand then ?

If its not working with ladders / ceilings, what would be good then ?

Honestly, get a scorp. they work pretty well for taming raptors. a bear trap might alos work to hold it still while you fire tranqs into it- haven't tried that yet, so I am not certain.

Build out of stone. They can't damage stone. Use ladders to get up. But they may break the ladders so you will have to fall to get down. But you won't take much damage

I'd be cautious putting ceilings down for a raptor, with my luck it would end up underneath me meaning I couldn't shoot it, so maybe try hatchways instead of ceilings? And yes to stone so it doesn't get destroyed.

We have a taming pen in a ravine with behemoth gates one side and a normal door the other. Agro a dino and get it to chase you into the pen, while you run through the door get a tribe mate to jump down from ravine side and shut the gates behind the dino. Shoot tranks through a window or from the ravine side. The dino is reasonably well protected while you are taming as well.

We make sure the doors are unlocked so anyone on the server can use it. It's not often you find a very high level dino to tame there but it makes a nice easy taming place for newer players on the server, who maybe don't need a really high dino to start out with.

Get someone who isn't a tribe member to build it, they won't attack it if it's not built by you.

Someone on my server built a few taming towers an pens out of wood, anyone not in her tribe can use them to tame a Rex coz it doesn't belong to the person attacking the Rex he will not attack it

That's a great idea and not something I knew. Would it work for our tribe if one of our tribe members (one who doesn't tame dino's) left the tribe and built a pen then rejoined the tribe after it was built?

Good point, I never thought of that since I joined with friends at the beginning and we've been in the same tribe since then.

Ok stone pillar and hatchframe will be for sure the best then, and using stairs to get up to the top then.

I play single player, so cannot use structures of others unfortunatelly

If your a good shot stand far enough away so you get 10 arrows in it before it gets to you. Use a bow coz it shoots quicker.

I have a strike platform/taming pen on a raft that I use to transport the Rex to locations to kill Alphas.. and also as a taming pen. Taming a Deod right now in it that I kited down the mountain and onto it before knocking it out. I have another almost just like it with higher walls. You can pull pillars and a higher ceiling on the outside walkway so you can climb up on a ladder and shoot down into the pen. Shooting through the doorway/windows works for most dinos.

Update: i tried out the platform thing(4 pillars and a hatchframe near the top, then 4 ladders going up) and it worked like a charm. I went into a area and from afar i saw a carno. I quickly built up the stand, the parts i made before to be quick with it..and as i was done and collecting some mats to have repair mats for my bow(had 60 tranq arrows lol, was my first carno) i looked at it and it looked at me and lowered it's head !
Oh-oh would Donald say.
I rushed up the platform and the carno was under me, standing and staring at the ladder lol..well i put i think 6 or 8 tranq-arrows into its head, waited 4-5 secs after each arrow for the narcotics developing its effect, it was so easy and cool..and it went asleep then. Actually taming it, hunting some meat with my trike and the paraguy in the area. It is a Carno lvl 3 so not that much resources are needed. Guess 50 narcotics will do it, maybe 80 meat max. additionally.
But better take lot of narcotics with you, just to be on the safe side. Would be a pain to lose the tame because of 5 narcs missing.

great job, glad it worked and grats on the tame :)
Just FYI, build stand out of stone. "Normal" Dinos can't damage stone, but they'll eat the ladder if it's wood, so make it metal. Easy AI-Cheating taming stand.

The only dinos that can chew on stone structures are Alphas, and you can't tame those anyway. But luring one to a metal taming tower and shooting it from above would be an easy way to kill it.

you really dont even need to build it out of stone, alpha rex's cant destroy a wooden foundation in the time it takes to shoot its head to death with a crossbow... but stone is more resilient and you'll need to repair it much less frequently

Not sure what kind of server you are playing on, but an Alpha Rex will most certainly destroy a wooden foundation before you kill it with a crossbow.
